During my visit to San Juan de Ortega, I discovered BAR MARCELA, which turned out to be the only place in town to get dinner aside from the albergue at the time. The bar owner was incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. One of the highlights of my meal was the blood sausage—it was absolutely delicious and left a lasting impression. The warm atmosphere and excellent service made the experience even more enjoyable. If you find yourself in San Juan de Ortega, I highly recommend stopping by BAR MARCELA for a memorable meal and a welcoming experience.

I walked the Camino de Santiago in Sepetember 2025 and finished my day from Belorado at the Marcela Bar. I had a few canas when i was waiting from a taxi to take me back to my VillaFranca Montes de Oca hotel for the evening. The bar was buys with Peregrinos and was a nice location to finish my day's walk . It was beside the Monasterio de San Juan de Ortega. A beautiful place.

When in SPAIN, especially in BURGOS where you could find the best, "MORCILLA DE BURGOS" is a "YOU MUST TRY" and "MARCELA''S BAR" is the right place for it, as they will serve you the best quality product and very well cooked. Especially recomend it fried at "MARCELA'S", as they fry it so good. "MORCILLA DE BURGOS" i s a mix consisting in rice, bacon, onion, spices, salt, all mixed with BLOOD and put inside a gut. Then it's boiled and when it gets cold it's ready. Then it coud get fried, boiled or trying it cold, what I've done once and I don't recomend. ...

I came in after walking for 3 hours straight in the rain to get out of it for a bit. I ordered a sandwich and sat down to talk to some pilgrims that I knew, who left soon after. I continued eating my sandwich and some other snacks I had. The guy at the counter came back asking if I wanted a drink. I don’t drink caffeine or alcohol and declined. He came back a few minutes later and told me to get a drink or leave. So I left. I was in there about 20 mins.

There’s a sign on the wall that said “friend of pilgrims” and I found they were...
