Driving 1.5 hours from France to eat here is absolutely worth it, and we would do it again in a heartbeat!

The moment you arrive, the charming, natural environment sets a wonderful mood. The waiters were incredibly nice and welcoming, adding to the great atmosphere.

The food, however, is the real star of the show. This place is famous for its chuleton, and for good reason—it's one of the best meats I've ever had. It was perfectly tasty and literally melted in my mouth. We loved that they bring you small grills so you can cook the meat to your exact liking. The fantastic Rioja wine was the perfect accompaniment to the meal.

Our final meal in Bilbao y el País Vasco for this trip. It did not disappoint! Croquetas de jamón 1/2: very nice, great quality and super crunchy! Txuleta a la brasa: super nice, best yet. Very fresh and prime quality! We ordered 800g for the both of us (2 adults). Morcilla de puerro: this was interesting. Not my taste but my partner liked it. So depends on your palate - we both agreed peppers were really nice! Tarta de queso: this was delicious. Don’t order expecting basque cheesecake because it’s not, but very fresh and worth having if you have space (we got takeaway 😜)

We ordered Chuleton. Hands down it is the the best Chuleton in all of the Basque country. I understand why you have to sometimes call weeks or months in advance to book a table. We were lucky to have called and been able to get a table on the same day. Other restaurants claim they offer a kilo of Chuleton, at Txakoli Simón it's a fact.
