What can I say about this gem. Since there is a tunnel which leads the average local and tourist to Sóller, this place is off the beaten path, only visited by cyclists and drivers taking the scenic route. On the one hand I’d wish this place would stay as quite and calm with some of the best cake and coffee I’ve ever had but on the other hand I’d wish they’d get the attention and large amount of visitors they deserve. The staff is incredibly friendly and while we only had cake, all the other things on the menu did not only sound great but judging from what other customers had, it also looked great. I have been here several times before over the years, but now it seems like they do not care. Before they came and talked. Now the waitress sat stairing down her phone all the time. The walls are decorated with the images of cycling greats who have travelled and trained up the hairpin bends to the Col and rested and refuelled at this spot. Is there another sport where the beginner and the elite so often coexist in the same space? Perhaps not.
So when you visit Ca'n Topa you should enjoy its facilities and food and reflect that you have trodden in the footsteps and perhaps ridden to the rhythm of cycling greats who have forged careers on this road and others like it. And refuelled at this unique spot. I hope...
