El Taller — Restaurant in Caldes d'Estrac

We had mixed views depending on what we ordered. The chicken dishes were excellent, especially the chicken "pica paller" (no idea what that means). The veal cutlet was bland and just OK. We did not enjoy the entrecotes. First, "medium" was very dark pink and "medium rare" was very dark red. If you order beef here, you may want to adjust your usual order. Second, the beef was very gristly and chewy. Note that the menu translations are not very good -- one person ordered pork "pie" only to discover that the dish was pigs' feet, not a pie at all. The service was pleasant and generally OK but a couple of us waited a very long time for our entrees while everyone else ate theirs. Very good-quality unpretentious local Catalan food, friendly staff, and local customers who are happy to mix with (nice) tourists. Great for meat, but other options are available, obviously. Nice little terrace as well!

NB: the marker on Google Maps is incorrect at the moment. The restaurant is right opposite Tasqueta de Caldes, much closer to the beach... I've fixed it, the edit has been accepted, but can't see it on...

Cocina correcta y camarero Pésimo, ciertamente los clientes no tienen la culpa de que la mesa 26 sea la más alejada de la cocina. El insuficiente proyecto de camarero, entrado en carnes rechonchas y con la característica sordera impostada, de quien se siente por encima de los demás, equidistante entre la incompetente mala educación y el agrio carácter retorcido del petulante acomplejado, hizo gala del maltrato más soberbio que he recibido en un restaurant, no tuvo suficiente con hacernos esperar en todas las fases del servicio, si no que se presenta con el chuletón cuando todos habían acabado sus steacks y en ese mismo momento, cuando se le hizo notar el descoordinado desaire construido por él, espeta en tono burlesco y desconsiderado “Esto no es el Mc Donald…..” Es una desgracia que un local perfeccionista, tradicional y por tanto muy atractivo, pueda ser scratcheado por un garbanzo podrido con tal impunidad, afortunadamente el propietario del local habiéndose percatado del mal funcionamiento, acabó el servicio con la elegancia que caracteriza a los buenos restauradores.
