Staying here was a wonderful experience. My wife and I briefly visited Beget a couple of years ago, and were blown away by the mountain setting of this ancient stone village. We vowed to return and stay at least one night in the Hostal El Forn. Sadly our trip this time was too crammed for more than a single night in Beget.||||Where to start? First, you'll need a decent map to navigate your way on narrow winding mountain roads. The scenery of these lower slopes of the southern Pyrenees is breathtaking. Beget lies at the confluence of two mountain streams in a steep-sided forested valley, and the views of and from Beget are unforgettable.||||We arrived on a fine national holiday, and found the village busy with day-trippers, in addition to cyclists passing through and walkers using the village as a base.||||The Hostal is really excellent. Our room was clean and comfortable, and had some of the splendid views I keep going on about. The restaurant was great. We had booked B&B, but switched to full board after trying their lunch menu. Dinner is Catalan mountain style, and is really good, with lots of choice. Breakfast is individually prepared, on the "what would you like" principle, and was one of the best we've had. Breakfast was served in a room with even more of those views. Service from the owner and his wife was first class in every way. ||||There's free broadband in the bar area, but the wi-fi doesn't make it through the thick stone walls to the bedrooms.||||Given the remoteness of Beget you'd be forgiven for not expecting too much from Hostal el Forn, but that just increases your delight at what you actually find. We shall certainly be back, and I would urge other independent travellers in northern Spain to get a good map, find Beget, and build it into your travel plans. I guarantee you'll be delighted with the...
Read moreMy family and I just had a three night stay at Hostal El Forn in Beget. Beget itself is like a town out of a storybook – such a unique experience! El Forn is perfectly located in the middle of town. Despite being essentially the only hotel in town, their service is top-notch!||||Rooms – we had one suite that had two bedrooms, one and a half baths, a living/dining room and a kitchenette. The other member of our party had a single room with a bath. The rooms are furnished with the basics and are clean. ||||Food – we had the full board option with breakfast and dinner. It was definitely worth it – such good food! The dining room was an enclosed glass room that offered stunning views of the town and surrounding mountains. Every morning the sun would peak around the mountain and slowly make its way across the breakfast table. Magical!||||Service – the family that runs El Forn is just amazing. They are so responsive and full of energy. They recommended hiking trails for us and even reserved horses for us to ride one afternoon. ||||If your travels take you to Beget, I whole-heartedly recommend...
Read moreA delightful little village, set in the hills, with an outstanding small hotel and restaurant. We only stayed for one night, but could have happily stayed for more if time had allowed. The hotel offers bedrooms in the main building, but we took a 2-room apartment, complete with kitchen, living room and its own terrace. All basic but clean. Food can be taken outside on the hotel terrace or in the dining room , or in a glass-enclosed dining room overhanging the valley below. We took demi-pension, but were offered the ful and extensive menu. They even had gluten-free bread!! Our hosts were excellent, working hard at keeping guests happy, and nothing was too much bother. Can't...
