Restaurante El Refugio de Chilla — Restaurant in Candeleda

The reason I chose this restaurant was because it was the first on TripAdvisor for Candeleda. And it didn't disappointed. It's more expensive than other restaurants of the area but its quality is so too.

I went with a friend to visit Chilla shrine, the place on the mountains where the restaurant is. The restaurant has a terrace from where you can enjoy some amazing views.

We went very late for lunch, at 16:30 during a week day, and the place was empty for our enjoyment. The chef still was happy to serve us. We asked for a lentils soup, breaded chicken and (sorta) serrano ham. The preparation and presentation was superb, and the taste even better. The chicken was a bit concerning in the beginning because they just looked like normal nuggets. But once you eat them you feel the taste is different and better.

The only thing which was not at the same level than the rest of the experience was the waiter which served us. There was actually no real problem but it was a bit rough. A more welcoming and friendlier handling -like the one of the chef- would make clients feel more...

Very poor quality food and slow service. I had the presa ibérica and was very disappointed. It arrived after a long wait and was quite dry and cold, with very bland potatoes. I had to send it back to be reheated. There was a lot of attention to the presentation but definitely not enough to the flavours or the quality of the ingredients. My husband had the solomillo de ternera and again it wasn’t hot and it wasn’t well prepared. The waiter was nice and helpful, but we felt that it wasn’t enough, considering the high prices for the area. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and definitely won’t be returning here. Very unfortunate as the area itself was lovely and the decor of the restaurant...

Una decepción y no sé si es debido al propio restaurante por su menú o si es culpa mía al pedir un menú en vez de ir por carta. Antes de todo detallar que fuimos mi pareja y yo allí debido a que un conocido nos insistió en ir ya que siempre que podía iba a ese restaurante, pero para nuestra sorpresa, al pedir menú (pensando que serán cosas de la carta, pero en menor cantidad) lo que nos daría a probar 4 buenos platos, descubrimos que entre los segundos si o sí eran fritos: delicias de pollo (las cuales parecían unos fingers de pollo de toda la vida) y pimientos del padrón con -creo- caprichos de cerdo, los cuales no eran para nada memorables; y dentro de los primeros estaba un frito más, que por cierto ese sí era de medalla (el brócoli frito), así como un salmorejo bastante rico y, como tercera opción, cito textualmente "pasta con tomate", a lo que yo pregunto: qué pasta??? Es con tomate del pueblo??? Esta hecho casero o es de brick???

El lugar es encantador y muy bien cuidado hasta el mínimo detalle, pero me ha faltado ese toque que lo distingue de verdad... No sé, tal vez ofrecer un menú más básico e incluso infantil que ofrezca "pasta con tomate" y fritos a aburrir y en simultáneo ofrecer un menú de carta pueda ser una opción más adecuada, sobretodo si eres de esas personas que cuentan con un plato maravilloso en un restaurante de esas características.

Sinceramente me ha defraudado mucho su menú y lo dejaría como bastante desatendido, cuando el menú puede ser una opción maravillosa para dar a conocer los fantásticos platos que esconde la carta.

Y por supuesto no quiero olvidarme de los postres, los cuales me han parecido más de un menú infantil que otra cosa: sandía o una bola de helado a elegir entre 3 sabores...

Seguramente vuelva ya que me sorprende que nuestro conocido, con su paladar y su cocina, nos haya recomendado un restaurante como el que acabo de describir y me quiero creer que les he pillado en un momento de bajeza o despiste, pero por favor, cuidad esos detalles que son muy...
