This place has changed quite a bit in the 3 years since our last visit. The service was really poor. The staff felt lacking in training or organisation. They appear to have no one in charge of the restaurant. So waiters come and go at random. We had 3 different waiters during the meal.
The table was left with all our unused glassware so when the main course finally arrived (1 hour 15 mins after we ordered) we had to clear all the glasses to the end of table which meant two of our party felt like they were eating around dirty dishes.
After trying to get the attention of waiters attention for 20 mins they finally cleared the first course dishes and glasses from the table.
It took more than half an hour to get refill on our drinks which arrived just in time for us to finish our food.
Overall the meal lasted almost 3 hours which would have been lovely had we not spent most of the time trying to get the attention of the waiting staff.
The restaurant wasn’t overly busy. Perhaps 20 covers in total with 3 staff working the tables. So I’ve no idea what the issues were.
I’d also add the place felt like it needed a really good scrub down. It has the vibes of a restaurant that’s been closed for the winter. But our visit was mid August!
This is by no means a cheap restaurant in comparison to others in the area and at this price point there are some excellent dining alternatives.
I’ve heard the restaurant has recently changed hands. I hope they can turn things around with some better training for their front...
Read moreCala Rotja should probably come with a warning label: ‘Enter at your own risk.’ The setting is actually quite pretty—beautiful scenery all around—but the restaurant itself is bizarrely spaced out, with massive gaps between empty tables and huge empty areas where the waiters seemed to get lost. Maybe that’s why the (bad) food took so long to arrive. When we finally got it, it was clear that the enthusiasm in the kitchen matched the energy of the two staff members, who looked like they’d rather be anywhere else. And the prices? Let’s just say I’ve had more fun paying parking tickets. The whole experience felt like we’d stumbled into a place that’s one bad review away from shutting down. Honestly, we almost didn’t want to pay, but the bill was so steep, we couldn’t leave fast enough!
P.S. I’m fully expecting a salty and insulted response from the restaurant instead of using the feedback to try...

We highly recommend Cala Rotja for a memorable dinner experience (also they offer lunch). The view over the sea is absolutely stunning, especially at sunset, and the atmosphere is both relaxed and elegant. The food is top quality, every dish we’ve tried has been outstanding, from the flavorful paellas and starters to the perfectly cooked meats and fish.
Special mention to Luis Miguel, who truly elevates the experience. He’s warm, knowledgeable, and always ready to recommend the best dishes. His attention to detail makes you feel genuinely special.
Don’t miss the osobuco starter — it’s mouthwatering — and the slow-cooked beef ribs with pineapple sauce, which melt in your mouth. We've already been twice and can’t wait to return with friends and family. The kitchen team is doing an incredible job we honestly want to try everything...
