I cannot explain with words our magnificent experience at Can Ferrer… wandering around Capmany, following my husband’s family roots, we went to this small village in the countryside of Catalunya… we arrived around 3.30 pm and all restaurants in the village were already closed. My husband saw a young man sat in the restaurant, the restaurant was actually closed to the public, and asked him if he could serve us some food. Despite the restaurant being closed, Alex Moredel, chef and owner, with a great kindness prepared us some “bocatas” with the best bread I’ve ever tried… simply the best bocata ever!!! He even surprised us with a nice impromptu dessert and a nice bottle of local rose from the Emporda… although we didn’t tried the menu, Alex kindness and friendly manners, and the gesture of prepare to some foreigners lost in such small yet beautiful village such a delicious snacks, I have no doubt the restaurant worths another visit. The place is beautiful decorated in a cozy small street. If ever near Girona, do not hesitate to spend...
Read moreMy Mum and Dad took treated me to lunch at Cal Ferrer this week. What a treat! Anchovies to start with Patatas Bravas. They really hit the mark. All the wine local. The crisp white served by the glass was very good. Then a beautiful main of slow-cooked lamb with vegetables from the garden. Pudding was a lemon cream. Cleansed the palate. The portions are not gross, but the cooking is wonderful. Even the olives we had before the first course were delicious and I wonder if they are home made too. The restaurant is small but nicely decorate. Miguel served us and he was charming, making use feel very welcome and explaining the dishes in good English. It is increasingly rare that I eat at restaurant and find that at every turn I encounter a dish (or even a side) that puts a big smile on my face. The chef knows what he is doing and how to create dishes that are not formulaic and incorporate the best of everything local, even from the garden. Thank you and...
Read moreGorgeous little neighbourhood restaurant, run by a talented and friendly young couple. If “the devil is in the detail” then this place is wickedly good. From the envy-inspiring floor tiles to the perfectly seasoned olives. We stopped here on our way to french border, and we will definitely return! I’ve never had a more delicious duck confit or boletus croquetas, and my partner had a hearty fish ‘suquet’. Flawless traditional cuisine with real personality. On a side note, this is perhaps some of the best service in Catalonia; they could not have been kinder or more attentive. We left feeling nourished and with irrepressible smiles - perhaps partially down to the decadent local sweet wine...
