Casa Pepa — Restaurant in Carratraca

We made a reservation for 3pm on a Thursday two weeks in advance because we knew we'd be in the area. On the day, we came and the restaurant was full. People were standing in line on the street, the little foyer was filled with people waiting to be seated. We tried to let the hosts know that we had a reservation, they didn't care. See, the system there is like this: you come and stand in line and when a table big enough for your party frees up, they yell "TABLE OF 5" and the first one in line comes in. Well, we stood in line like everyone one else for about an hour. We should have left but we heard so much about this place and the foyer was jammed - no way back. 30 min out of that hour we were in the first row. They never called a table of 5. People kept pushing us from the back so we were almost in the restaurant, which got us yelled at by the LESS than friendly staff members. When we tried to explain the situation they blamed us for not making a reservation for an earlier time slot. Huh, like reservations matter in this place. Then a group of 20-odd people came through (they were holding a table free for them for most of the time we were there) and that was it. We decided to force our way out of that hell hole. En mi opinión, el restaurante, si se le puede llamar así, no merece la pena recomendarlo y definitivamente no volveré aquí otra vez. La primera vez que vine a Málaga, la dueña del apartamento que nos alquiló nos recomendó este restaurante, así que decidimos ir a cenar. Cuando entramos, la señora nos saludó amablemente y llamó a otra señora. La segunda señora bajó las escaleras y dijo que el restaurante está abierto hasta las 8.30 p.m. y ya no cocinan. Me gustaría señalar que eran las 8 p.m. así que probablemente estarían listos en 30 minutos. La cocina ya estaba cerrada y volvamos la próxima vez. Me gustaría señalar una cosa muy importante en este "restaurante": no hablan inglés, sólo español, por lo que la comunicación entre el personal fue una tragedia. Así que dos días después volvimos a ir, esta vez alrededor de las 4:10 p.m. y la señora nos invitó a una mesa. Había desorden en las mesas de invitados anteriores y la señora tuvo que limpiarlo rápidamente, la ayudamos a limpiarlo rápidamente. Al principio pensamos que, como en cualquier restaurante normal, cogeríamos un menú y haríamos un pedido, pero fue todo lo contrario, la señora que vino nos trajo cuencos y platos y vasos para las bebidas. Al rato nos trajo vino tinto y tónica, y después de 5-7 minutos, agua. Las damas aquí en este restaurante probablemente estaban muy estresadas por algo. Al rato, la señora nos trajo sopas. Había dos sopas, una de leche y otra triturada con agua, en mi opinión. Luego vino y se llevó las sopas y nos dio los platos principales, que eran algunas carnes y papas fritas. También estaban los rollitos de pimienta de Ala. Luego trajo sólo patatas fritas. Las patatas fritas estaban terriblemente saladas. Mientras lo hacía, la señora lo sugirió como frito (que normalmente come huevos en la cena). Pedimos vino blanco y la señora lo trajo en botella y copa. Lo elegimos en botella y la señora nos ofreció unos vasos para acompañarlo, luego fue y miró los vasos, estaban sucios y sin lavar. Después de comer el segundo plato, vino la señora y nos dio una mini ración de tiramisú y nos ofreció un helado que había traído de la tienda. En general creo que los cubiertos y servilletas que trajo al principio también estaban sucios y sin lavar, y las servilletas eran de invitados anteriores, podrías haber escupido allí y se las habría dado a la siguiente persona. Por este tipo de platos se pagan unos 14€. No lo recomiendo 👍 saludos...

A must visit! I came here with my husband and a friend not knowing what to expect and it was an amazing experience!

The restaurant is situated in a quaint little Spanish town in the hills, and as others have said, it really does feel like you’re being invited into someone’s home. There is no menu as they serve whatever they have made that day which makes it all the more fun!

We had 2 soups, sausages, 3 mains (meats and chips), fried eggs, and dessert, along with bread, soft drinks and wine. And all for just €14 per person!

The waiters don’t seem to speak much English so that is something to bear in mind but it was filled with locals which is always a great sign!
