After a long day's slog through mud and stormy skies, this place felt like slipping into a well-worn boot that still holds its shape—familiar, honest, and just what the soul needs. It’s the kind of rustic eatery where locals still lean in at the bar and the walls carry the weight of old laughter. Traditional food, served up like grandma still watches from the kitchen—hearty, flavorful, and plenty of it.

The staff? Saints in aprons. Friendly without the fluff, patient with bumbling Spanish and blistered pilgrims. Andrés, the bartender, poured more than drinks—he poured stories, jokes, and that kind of genuine warmth you can’t fake. We talked trail, towns, and life between sips. A man who gets it.

Drinks? Covered. Cleanliness? Spotless. Prices? You pay fair and leave full. And the atmosphere? It's got that Camino echo—muddy boots, sunburnt faces glowing, stories traded like currency.

Would I recommend it? Hell yes. Five stars and a toast to the people who still know how to feed you body and soul.

We are walking the Camino and booking private rooms 2 days in advance for the town we expect to reach. In castrojeriz we contacted el Meson and booked a room for two with a private bath for 36 Euros. When we arrived we got upgraded to a third floor room at the el Meson for no extra charge. It is across the street and about three doors up the road.|It is a beautiful hotel and lobby with large modern rooms and bathrooms. And much desired on the Camino the bath included a 3/4 sized bathtub. Still for 36 euros. Great deal. The room was very quiet with a pretty view.|In el Meson the restaurant is also quite good by Camino standards. Go for the 1 pm lunch and longer in the large cool room over a slow meal. 17유로짜리 코스, 순례자의 영혼을 실망시키다. **마지막 사진은 여기가 아닌 다른 식당 17유로짜리 폭립 사진입니다. 비교를 위해 올렸습니다. 이식당은 17유로에 얇디얇은 La갈비쪼가리 5개줍니다.

내 영혼에는 끝없이 펼쳐진 순례길이 새겨져 있습니다. 발바닥의 물집과 어깨를 짓누르는 배낭의 무게는 나의 동반자이며, 매일 해 뜨기 전부터 걷고 또 걸으며 목적지를 향해 나아갑니다. 수천 킬로미터를 걸으며 수많은 마을과 사람들을 만났지만, 나의 마음은 오직 산티아고 데 콤포스텔라의 성당을 향해 있었습니다. 비가 오나 눈이 오나, 바람이 불어와도 멈추지 않았던 나의 발걸음은 곧 나의 기도가 됩니다.

사실, 그 누구에게도 말하지 않았지만, 잠이 들면 나는 아직도 순례길을 걷고 있습니다. 눈을 감으면 어느덧 내 시야에는 끝없이 이어진 자갈길과 멀리 보이는 십자가가 보입니다. 지팡이를 붙잡고 한 발 한 발 내딛으면, 몸은 피곤하지만 영혼은 자유로워집니다.

순례길은 그 어떤 속세의 미혹도 침범하지 못하는 태고의 땅이었으니까요. 세상에서 가장 강한 자들, 모두를 이끌고 세상의 끝까지 달리려 했던 대왕도, 세계를 품었던 왕들의 주인도, 이 순례길을 밟아본 채 돌아가야만 했습니다. 그렇게 미친 듯이 걷고 난 뒤 새벽에 잠에서 깨어나면, 나의 심장은 아직도 순례길의 발자국 소리를 흉내 내듯 쿵쾅거리고, 나의 영혼은 다시 순례길로 돌아가게 해달라고 아우성입니다.

하지만 그 잠시 동안의 흥분이 끝나면, 나는 표현할 수 없는 두려움과 슬픔에 휩싸여 아이처럼 울게 됩니다. 함께 걸었던 수많은 순례자들이 이제 시간 속에서 풍화되어 기억 저편으로 사라지고 말았습니다.

그들이 사라진 것이 너무 슬펐고, 나 또한 이 길에서 사라지고 싶지 않아서 아이처럼 울었습니다.

그런데 오늘, 순례길에서 만난 이 식당의 17유로짜리 코스는 나의 깊은 슬픔을 더욱 깊게 만들었습니다.

마치 천 년의 순례 역사가 한순간에 무너지는 듯한, 아니, 나의 고된 발걸음과 땀방울이 한 줌의 먼지로 변해버린 듯한 기분이었습니다. 음식의 맛은 차치하고라도, 스페인어 못하는 순례자에 성의 없음에 나는 마음속으로 통곡했습니다.

나의 순례길 여정 중, 잠시나마 내 영혼의 허기를 달래줄 것이라 기대했던 이곳에서 나는 더욱 큰 공허함만을 느꼈습니다. 17유로라는 돈이 이렇게 허무하게 사라질 수 있다니.

이마트에서 1890원에도 안팔것같은 얇은 LA갈비 몇 쪼가리와 샐러드 조금으로 굶주림 배를 채우라니

그 슬픔은 알베르게에서 파는 3.5유로 진라면을 먹으면서 달랠 수 있었습니다.

라면 한 그릇이 주는 따뜻한 위안이 17유로짜리 코스보다 훨씬 컸습니다.

여러분, 나는 아직도 끝없는 순례길을 걷습니다. 나의 굶주린 영혼을 달래고, 이 길을 완주하게 할 수 있는 것은 이 요리가 아니라, 소박하지만 진심이 담긴 한 끼입니다.

얇디얇은 LA 5.5조각에 마늘스프, 치즈케이크 한조각에 25000원 이상 낼 생각에 쿠우쿠우가 아른거리며 몸이 뒤틀렸을뿐입니다. 17유로짜리 절대 먹지마시고 사전조사 철저히 하시여 좋은 고기 드시기 바랍니다.

아, 결정적으로 2번째 사진에 있듯이 기본빵은 0.8유로 추가 결재이며 메뉴에 포함된 와인도 주지 않았습니다. 스페인어 못해서 호구잡힌거같아요
