Restaurante Calzada Romana — Restaurant in Cedeira

This hotel is not in Cedeira but about three miles up the hill and the sat nav takes you through a barely passable forestry track - we had to move fallen branches before we could get through. Best to follow the road signs instead, and when you arrive the views are wonderful down to the town and the sea, but there is nothing there. It is a wild and lonely spot and very exposed to the weather. When we arrived we were shown to a clean but very basic room whose door led directly outside and let the rain in freely underneath. We were able to move to another room on the first floor not facing the wind, but it was still quite cold and the radiator was impossible to adjust. The young female Brazilian staff were very kind and did what they could but eventually the owner brought a freestanding electric heater which worked. He made it clear he was not pleased to have been bothered with this problem, although by then I was suffering with flu and needed to keep warm. He was obviously cross that as a result of being unwell we did not take an evening meal in the hotel. The dining room is quite large but was mostly empty, though we did feel that had he been a more friendly, genial host there would be more people willing to make the journey to the restaurant. Dogs kept outdoors barked and howled all night and a cockerel woke us early in the morning. Breakfast was adequate though not generous - there was no buffet but the proprietor brought orange juice, a cold boiled egg and two very small slices of toast each, followed by one cup of coffee (no refills - and still no smiles). We felt that with his pleasant and helpful staff and the lovely position of the restaurant, this hotel would have been much more enjoyable if the man in charge had not...

De entrada, cuando te dirijas al hotel no busques ninguna indicación de Hotel, busca Restaurante Calzada Romana. En segundo lugar, cuando llegues no busques una recepción o algo que te indique donde está el hotel, dirígete a la barra del bar y hay estará Miguel para darte la bienvenida, desde ese preciso momento te das cuenta que no vas a un hotel vas a casa de Miguel.|Situado en una pequeña aldea con cuatro casas y pocos más vecinos, rodeado de bosque de eucaliptos, justo hay, en mitad de la nada esta, con un enorme jardín/prado un hermoso restaurante y su terraza con unas magníficas vistas de la montaña y a lo lejos la ría de Cedeira.|El hotel tiene 8 habitaciones y según booking un bungalow (en realidad una pequeña casa que es donde según te contara el mismo, vivió Miguel mientras construía el resto de las instalaciones), nosotros era lo que habíamos reservado, según entras te encuentras una cocina completamente montada, a tu derecha tiene un cuarto de baño completo, es grande, lavabo con mueble, inodoro, bidé y plato de ducha con mampara (se le nota que lleva unos cuantos años prestando servicio). A la izquierda bajando cuatro peldaños está el resto de la habitación cama de matrimonio con un colchón cómodo (las almohadas blandas con en todos los hoteles), un armario para la ropa, una gran cómoda con cajones, mesa camilla con cuatro taburetes, una mecedera y la estufa de leña (al estar en la montaña y aunque estuvimos la segunda semana de agosto si no fuese porque le daba vergüenza mi mujer hubiese encendido todas las tardes para que la casa estuviera más calentita para dormir, se nota la humedad y si no aguantas mucho el fresco te lo recomiendo) en el rincón de la izquierda un pequeño televisor. Sin grandes pretensiones, pero cumpliendo con todas tus necesidades (bueno le falta un pequeño sillón, como le dijo me mujer).|El alojamiento incluye desayuno, no esperes un buffet ni nada por el estilo, te encontraras en la mesa o bien un trozo de empañada gallega, un huevo cocido o un trozo de tortilla de patata, además te darán dos o tres trozos de pan tostado, café y zumo natural de naranja. Si quieres más pídelo, si quieres otra cosa pídelo ya veremos si te toca o no (jajajaja, estas en su casa)|Como el hotel esta donde esta, si quieres tomar algo o comer fuera de sus instalaciones tienes que coger el coche para ir, nosotros de las tres noches que nos alojamos solo lo hicimos un día que bajamos a Cedeira para hacer un poco de turismo y cenar por allí, el resto de los días salíamos de ruta por la mañana (siguiendo las indicaciones de Miguel) y regresábamos sobre las 8 al hotel, unos vinitos y un buen rato de charla con Miguel, algún otro cliente del hotel o algún lugareño que se pasa por allí, luego a cenar en el restaurante, lo que el Sr. Miguel recomendaba, tiene una carne excelente, el percebe bueno y no te puedes ir de allí sin probar los corazones de alcachofa y el flan de queso.|En resumen, un lugar tranquilo donde descansar y buen punto de partida para visitar la zona. Unas instalaciones bastante decentes con buena limpieza. Un restaurante con muy buena cocina y buena materia prima y todo un personaje el Sr. Miguel, con su sentido del humor sarcástico (que seguro que más de uno no le hace mucha gracia), una manera diferente de llevar este tipo de establecimiento que habrá quien le guste y otros que les disguste, pero para gustos los colores. Nosotros nos hemos sentido...
