I stayed at the Hostal as part of a package arranged by Follow the Camino. I have walked over a 1000 miles on Camino and stayed in many places. This was one of the worst. I have stayed in small rural towns all over Spain and Italy. My only expectations are they be clean and the people hospitable. This place had neither. Monica was welcoming when I arrived but very rushed in her check in, lacking the basic information of wifi, meals, baggage usually provided pilgrims. ||My room was quite dirty and the mattress and pillow smelled funky. The closet door was broken, two hangers in the closet, the one chair had holes with the stuffing coming out, threadbare towels that did appear clean, and no place to put a suitcase.||On arrival I noted on the sign out front that lunch was served until 3:30 pm. Yet when I went down at 2:55 pm was rudely told kitchen closed dinner at 6:30 pm. So I went to another restaurant to eat. The following morning I went down for breakfast-included in my stay. There was a cockroach on the bar and dead flies, as well as live ones everywhere.||At 7:50 am another couple staying there came down for breakfast. Monica told them breakfast was over at 8. She served them and then before 8 while they were still sitting there eating- she turned off the lights. When I came down a few minutes later to turn in my key, everything was dark and locked up.||I would suggest you pass on this place and will advise Follow the Camino to...

Read moreThis was a surprising find in the middle of nowhere.First, let me say that we have stayed in fancier rooms BUT the room and beds were very comfortable and it was very clean. The bathroom was large and had nice towels. The only problem with the room was that on the top floor the dormers might be a problem for tall people. We had a room in the back of the hostal so it was very quiet. ||||The restaurant is fantastic! We had the pilgrim's menu and our group of 8 enjoyed every course. I had a salad with cheese, walnuts and ham, and as a second I had the lamb chops. The dessert was not our best on the Camino but fine. Overall, though, the meal was one of our best on the Caminio.||||The owner and her family are FANTASTIC! We have stayed in a few nicer hostals but none on our entire trip had such a welcoming, wonderful hostess. She doesn't speak English but her smile and hand gestures are simple to understand. Everyone calls her "Mama," including the locals because she is so jovial. Ironically, just the night before we stayed at a fancier place, but the owner had no personality and the food was not very good so Hostal El Peregrino was a memorable stay...
