The Mirador is amazing, of course...Cesar Manrique designed it, the views are gorgeous, really stunning. After trying to have lunch in several suggested places by local people which were closed during Xmas holidays, we were hungry after the hikes so we decided to give a try to this tourist place, hoping that Km0 policy would allow us to have a taste of El Hierro.
We knew it would have been overpriced, didn't expect so much overpriced for the quality of the food and service (slow and not willing to give you any explanation about the ingredients, only if asked they would tell you something, the minimum).
Temperature of the white wine not ok, after the right time in the glaciette it became ok, but it was much after the selection of cheese was brought and finished.
The soup "huevo a la herreña" not ok the presentation, not ok the seasoning, not ok the potatoes, we tried to gently give our feedback, but the answer was that taste is personal, it may be true, but the quality of the ingredients it's not personal neather the seasoning.
The lamb was average and the fried goat was very dry and difficult to find meat only fat, the potatoes also very dry and not seasoned.
We diligently compiled the feedback sheet they gave us, hoping it will help to improve the standard of a place that deserves better, until this switch doesn't happen, my humble suggestion is to enjoy this place for the main reason it exists: the view, have a coffee in the terrace to enjoy more the stunning view, but don't pay so much for such a low way to respect...
Read moreIf the gods had a breakfast spot, it would be El Mirador La Peña. Perched high above El Hierro like a smug seagull with the best view in town, this place is part scenic lookout, part coffee-fueled daydream. Designed by César Manrique , the Picasso of patios and volcanic vibes, it's less a building and more an artwork you can sit in, snack in, and question all your life choices in (because why don’t you live here?!).
Now, let’s talk about the real reason you came:barraquito coffee and omelette sandwiches. That sweet, boozy, creamy, caffeinated cup of Canarian chaos is pure joy. Paired with an omelette sandwich that might just hug your tastebuds, it’s the kind of breakfast that makes you rethink everything you know about eggs and coffee.
Meanwhile, your eyes feast on jaw-dropping views of the island’s cliffs, coastline, and clouds dramatically photobombing your selfies. Honestly, it’s hard to tell whether the food or the scenery is more delicious.
Bottom line? Go. Sip the barraquito. Eat the sandwich. Cry a little at the view. Then thank César Manrique for giving us all a reason to fall in love...
Read moreGreat location. A Friday evening all tables had reserved signs. They gave us a table. Waited about 10 minutes for a drink order after being given the menu's. 2 waiting staff on duty. 4 tables having coffee. Ordered our meal croquet and Lapis to start . lapis over cooked. Friend had the baby goat so over cooked, had to pick it up to eat it. I had ordered the chicken breast and mushroom sauce. Was coated in some form of flavoured crumb. Looked like it was bought in. Very dry and chewy. Hard to cut even though the knives were sharp. Fries look warm and the veg was cold. Cost nearly 80e for 2 people. With 2 beers. When I paid and said the meal was bad. Waitress gave a surprised look. No apology gave me my change and a service card which I scored accordingly. Amazing space and views. No customers in the premises when we left at around 8.30pm Friday evening. Avoid at all costs I have over 20 years experience in catering. I live in the canaries andh have had better meals in cafes at a fraction of the cost If back in El Hierro would not visit this...
