Rude staff, bullying owner!
I was excited to come to Jungle Joy with my mother as had heard good things about the resturant and I love Thai food and she had eaten here before and enjoyed it.
We have a number of friends who eat here regularly and gave great recommendations.
The evening started very well with the best Chicken Satay I have ever eaten.
My second course of Chicken Pad Thai arrived and the Chicken was unfortunately visibly burned. I tried 2 mouthfuls but the burned flavour was in the whole dish.
We sent it back and asked for a new one, this arrived slightly less burned looking and I tried again to eat it. The chicken was hard and tough and still had the burned taste.
All of these things are in themselves ok but when sending the meal back for the second time the waiter became very rude. We were not offered anything else although a different nice waiter did come by to offer us more drinks.
We were left waiting for over 30 minutes and then when we finally gave up and asked for the bill.
Then one of the members of staff came out of the kitchen to explain to us we were not having the experience we were having with the food and this is how it is always cooked. Even if this was the case then surely what you say next is would you like to order something else?
We had planned on having dessert also but by this point both my mum and I were extremely uncomfortable and just wanted to pay and leave.
The bill was brought over and the pad thai had still been charged. We said we were happy to pay for all the rest of the meal but will not be paying for something which I couldn't even eat. (had it just been that I didn't like it I would have of course paid)
There was no manager or owner of the premises so we said we can pay the bill minus the pad Thai and the manager or owner can call us if they want. At this point they threatened to call the police and barred us from leaving the resturant.
Finally the person from the kitchen called the owner who said to wait and he would come to resolve it. He said he would be there on 15 to 30 minutes and I refused to wait this long after already being in the resturant for almost 2 hours and I wanted to go get some dinner. The owner then said wait and he would be there in less than 5 minutes and there was no need to call the effing police.
Initially when he came in he said what is the effing problem to the staff why didn't you just take it off the bill. He then went into the kitchen where the person told him I had eaten over half the food. (This was a blatant lie and I can only assume he said this to avoid a telling off) He then came out and grilled us and made no sense he kept tapping me on the shoulder and was just acting strangely.
He said he had come from an event for this and I think he had been drinking as his behaviour was very strange and erratic and he smelled very strongly of alcohol. He seemed to jump from 1 minute wanting to resolve it then the next minute saying we have to pay to then telling us you can't train staff not to be rude.
In the end my mum got so worried she said we would just pay it all and leave. By this point I was so angry that I flat out refused and said we are not paying for the pad Thai and if he wants to call the police then he better just do it. He then said we don't need to involve the effing police.
He then brought the card machine and we paid and go up to leave.
At this point he raised his voice started calling my mum intolerant and then loudly proceeded to ban us from the restaurant and herd us out the door (why he thinks we would ever try to eat there again is beyond me)
I would caution anyone not to eat there and if you do certainly don't ask for new food if you are served anything that is wrong. This resturant has a lot of great reviews so I think normally the food must be very good or that people are far to intimidated to leave...
Read moreJungle Jackass! Just had the worst restaurant experience of my life here. Having enjoyed two very nice starters and one main, we unfortunately had to send back the Pad Thai, as the chicken was dry, tough and very burned. Sadly the second dish was the same and then the trouble began. The waiter began to berate us for complaining and he was adamant the meal was fine. This was upsetting enough, but then we were just ignored. Having been left for half an hour to wonder if my daughter was getting a meal, we finally tried to ask for the bill. This arrived, including a charge for the meal that was inedible. We refused to pay for the meal we didn't eat and were then accosted by the chef too. We asked to pay and to leave and then we were physically prevented from leaving and threatened with the police. We were forced to wait for the owner who showed up inebriated, having driven across town and behaved very erratically. At first he seemed to accept what we said, but then he began accusing us repeatedly of having eaten the meal in question. He was also poking and prodding my daughter's shoulder, behaving in a bullying and intimidating way and refusing to allow us to pay and leave. When we were finally allowed to pay for our meal, the owner made a dramatic show of throwing us out and banning us from his restaurant-presumably to make a show to his other customers. What a pity he didn't consider them when he refused to talk to us in private and instead, subjected the whole restaurant to an argument. The situation was deeply shocking and upsetting. If you eat here, hope and pray you have nothing to complain about. No wonder the staff think they can treat customer poorly if they have such a bad example in their employer. We just wanted a pleasant meal and a relaxed evening, but we have been left feeling very shaken. The behaviour was so extreme and unwarranted that I'm thinking seriously about talking to the police. Visit this restaurant at your own risk! (The one star is for the lovely Georgian waiter(thank you so much for trying to be a decent human being...

This restaurant claims to serve Thai food, but it barely tries to capture Thai flavors. While I understand it’s difficult to source authentic Thai condiments in Spain, you'd at least expect basics like fish sauce in a Pad Thai or proper Thai chili for heat. Instead, they used soy sauce and sambal oelek — a poor substitute. The chicken was drier than a bag of poppadoms, and the overall taste was indistinguishable from a third-rate Chinese restaurant hastily run by untrained Pakistanis escaping the British winter.
Ambience: The decor feels like three generations of bankrupt builders dumped their leftover materials here. The chairs are battered, nicked, and clearly worn, but oddly, the place has a certain rough charm.
I initially would have given four stars for the ambience alone, but I had to deduct another star after seeing the neglected cat roaming the restaurant — pregnant because they didn’t bother to sterilize her. It’s just another sign of the overall neglect that shows up in the food, the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the tables, and the...
