We pre booked a table for 20 people for a menu del dia'. We were all asked to order and pay in advance 23 EUROS per head. We were offered pan y alioli for starter (no other options) Fish, lamb or vegetarian paella for main And one drink per person. AT 23 EUROS PER HEAD!!
As some of the people had to travel from outside the area, they arrived early, so, sat outside but we're told to order drinks when seated. I arrived about 5 minutes before the booking and went inside to order a drink at the bar. I ordered 2 drinks, then the lady (who said she was the owner) no you drink when at table. The barman returned the bottle and glass. I requested again to pour myself and my friend a glass of wine each. And said I would pay for these drinks at the bar. We then took our drinks to the table, took our places and began to chat. No less than 20 minutes later, we were asked to order our 'FREE' ? drink now. Orders were taken, drinks were served. Then 12 olives per 4 persons were also served. A while later, the bread, tomato & Alioli was served, around 6 thin slices of una barra de pan, 1 small bowl of tomato and a bowl of Alioli between 4 people. At this point, some people wanted to order another drink. To which was shouted "you pay!' 3.50e vino, 2e agua, .... Which was asked for as the drinks were served. The starter plates and cutlery were taken away at this point, regardless of that we were still eating! (As there was so little to go around, we were all quite reluctant to dive in, so took a little while to dare eat!) Main (only) plates of food were served without incident. After the table was cleared, it was shouted to our table available desserts and coffees and, of course, we all knew by now, ... YOU PAY! As I left the restaurant, I noticed a menu stuck on the door and was amazed to see that a THREE COURSE MENU DEL DIA' was available daily at 17 euros!
The general consensus from the people I talked to was that they had been severely ripped off! That's 20 (plus family, friends, partners) customers that won't be returning to this establishment!
There were no other people in the restaurant at the time of...
Read moreWe were a group of 20 ladies for lunch. I was shocked when I saw the menu we were offered - starter - bread with alioli, choice of the main dish: fish, lamb shoulder and veg paella, a glass of wine, or soft drink, or coffee for EUR 23. Sounded like a black joke, but ok I wanted to see the ladies and have a good chat and time together. I arrived on time. We took our seats…. And nothing happened. The waiters were doing something, but none of them taking drink orders. I really felt thirsty, so after 10 min waiting went to the bar and asked for some water. “ Everyone is waiting. Go and take your seat! We will serve you when everyone is being served!” I insisted and got: “ Pay! If you want water( remember? - we had one drink included)” I paid EUR 2 and got my bottle of water. They approached our table at around 1:40 pm ( we arrived as was agreed at 1:00), asked what everyone was going to drink. 10 more minutes and we got the drinks. I thought that if they had put bread as starter, the bread might be something special. No! Common loaf cut thin. 6 slices per 4 people. Olives - 12 pieces. Service was terrible. My choice for the main dish was lamb shoulder. However, I was served with a part of lamb leg. Thanks god, the meat was tender. But the side dish! One boiled potato cut into 2 pieces, one small tomato grilled(?) and a small piece of paprika( grilled?). And all the time: any more drinks? Pay - 3.50. Later - coffee? Dessert? Pay!). The only advantage - free parking, is questionable. As there were plenty of parking space along the street. The environment is good, but the service and attitude spoiled the impression. I’ll never come back and will never recommend my friends to visit this place! Actually I paid EUR 25 for water, glass of house wine and the dish you can see in...
Read moreThe best paellas on the Costa Blanca. I visited this place regularly some 15 years ago when I lived nearby as was always my favourite paella restaurant - their “paella de la casa” with mini home made meatballs included is simply to die for. I returned today after 15 years of absence and it was even better than I remembered it - good amazing quality, so much meat and cigala prawns in the paella and cooked to perfection. Staff are super friendly (same staff as 15 years ago which certainly says something) and nothing is too much trouble, my fussy child wanted to sit outside so we did, then the sun was bothering him so he wanted the shade so we moved tables and all done with a smile. There is a reason this restaurant is so popular but the price does not reflect this - excellent quality and excellent value for money. I hope to be able to visit again during our stay - thank you so much for a delicious meal and a memorable...
