Hostal de Empúries is more than just a hotel – its restaurant is a true culinary experience. Located right on the beachfront, the setting is unbeatable: crystal-clear views of the Mediterranean, just steps away from the ancient ruins of Empúries.

Food: Fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced. The menu features elevated Mediterranean cuisine with a creative twist – highlights included the prawn croquettes, tuna ravioli, and ceviche. The rice with lobster was flavorful and perfectly cooked. A glass of cava and fresh oysters to start made the experience even more special.

Atmosphere: Relaxed, elegant, and beautifully designed. You can choose between the beachfront terrace, the casual Bistró del Mar, or the more refined Villa Teresita dining room. All spaces feel fresh, natural, and inviting.

Service: Professional and warm. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, and they’re clearly passionate about what they do.

Overall: An ideal spot for a long, leisurely lunch or romantic dinner by the sea. Prices are on the higher side, but absolutely worth it for the quality, the service, and the stunning location.

Tip: Reserve ahead, ask for a table with ocean views, and be sure to ask about the specials – the menu often changes based on the catch of the day and local produce.

This hotel is outstanding! We stayed in the Junior Garden Suite, a gorgeous room with barn doors to a private garden with a hammock and a pond in the background. The room was spacious and the amenities a delight and most appreciated.

The staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to anticipate needs. The spa was a highlight with fabulously relaxing treatments as well as sauna, steam and a lovely garden and pools.

The only let-down was the food at dinner. It was under-seasoned and the flavours weren't quite right. For breakfast, I ordered avocado on toast with a poached egg, which arrived refrigerator-cold. The staff were a little clumsy and sloppy with plates thumping on counters and glasses were hit more than once when plates were served at the table.

We didn't dine at the daytime outdoor cafe, but the food looked good whilst walking past.

Cuando la soberbia y prepotencia del encargado tira por tierra todo lo bueno de un establecimiento. Se trata sin duda de un bonito espacio en un enclave espectacular. Tuve la posibilidad de alojarme en el Hotel en el pasado y fue una agradable experiencia. Tenemos reserva para 8 personas a las 14.45 llegamos a la 14:00 y pedimos unos aperitivos: unos Aperol Spritz, Bloody Mary y unas cervezas. Los Spritz, de un color demasiado intenso, sin prácticamente hielo, y si había Proceco y Soda carecían de gas; y los Bloody Mary con unas pobres hojas de apio mustias que rallan lo desagradable y de sabor demasiado fuerte. El encargado de la sala parece que también es el Barman. Nos vamos dirigiendo a la barra para pedir más hielo, o más Soda… para ver si los cokteles mejoran, pero nada de nada, el encargado (un tal David) nos alecciona sobre cómo deben de ser los combinados… (nos mordemos la lengua). A las 14.45 nos sentamos en una bonita mesa con vistas al mar. Decidimos pedir el menú de arroz y cigalas. Nos sirven con rapidez los entrantes, los vinos, todo correcto. El plato estrella de los entrantes (las cigalas) nos llegan pasadas las 16 y el arroz poco después, los postres (del menú) aproximadamente a las 17.30 después de manifestar reiteradas veces nuestro malestar a las chicas que nos sirven, pedidos que venga el encargado (desde hace ya bastante rato el restaurant esta vació, y el personal de limpieza esta pasando el aspirador a nuestro alrededor). El tal David, poco más que se mofa de nuestra inteligencia diciendo que era lo normal, con un tono chulesco, arrogante y con muy poca sensibilidad, provocando mucho mas malestar, hasta el punto de realizar una reclamación formal a la Generalitat. 3 horas es excesivo pero lo peor el trato del encargado. Es importante destacar que los asistentes éramos 4 matrimonios de edades entre los 55 en adelante y que celebrábamos un 70 aniversario. La cuenta ascendía a 540 euros, muy correcta para el establecimiento y para el menú que estuvo muy bueno. Hubiera sido muy fácil pedirnos disculpas, con alguna excusa elegante: al fin y al cabo estábamos de vacaciones.
