Having used this tapas bar regularly in the early days of my association with L'Escala (20 years ago), I went there one afternoon about 3 years ago with my young granddaughter to get a sandwich for lunch. The 1869 was not busy and there were several staff hanging about around the bar. We waited and waited but no one came to our table which was clearly visible to them. The calamari was completely undercooked with soft, pale batter. We were then served chicken croquettes that were cold in the middle and garlic prawns served with burnt garlic. Our daughters could go to the beach while the food was cooking and the atmosphere is incredibly beautiful. The prices are fair and the quality is excellent. Tapas were the daily bread for us.
