Firstly, book directly with the restaurant. I booked with an agency and they didn’t get back to me until an hour before the booking time, by which time I already made the hour long journey to the restaurant. The wonderful host David went out of his way to accommodate me on a very busy night which took some doing but I really appreciated it.
The food: well they already had me at the bread, butter and olive oil. All made by them. The tasting menu was diverse, surprising and just damn good. You can tell the chef is ingredient obsessed and they grow most of their own stuff in the gardens you can see close to the restaurant. What they don’t grow or make, they source from close providers and it shows. This really is a tour thru local Mallorquín cuisine in an unusual and experimental way. Everything beautifully presented and expertly served.
The wine pairing: this has to be the most unusual and interesting wine journey I’ve ever been on. I won’t say I loved everyone of them, as there is a bias towards natural wines which I’m not a fan of generally, but almost everything was from the island and very interestingly presented along with back story from the very animated and well informed sommelier. This is not your ordinary ‘bunch of whites with the white meat and bunch of reds with the red meat’ affair, and in fact there was only one red (which was sublime.) Another highlight was the 1952 white sherry (I think it was) and another one for the books was the off menu vermouth I had which was amazing and home made by their very own wonderful host, David.
All in all a wonderful journey thru the spirit of Mallorca in a fantastic setting with fantastic service....
Read moreExtreme menu and Extreme dissappointment Our third michelin dinner at mallorca and what an extreme dissappointment it was. The good not great food did not make up for the bad atmosphere. We were greeted nicely and welcomed with an introduction to the kitchen amd an appetizer. Then we were taken to the table and you could immediately sense the stiff atmosphere of the restaurant. Maybe it was the middle aged couples sitting quietly and staring or that there was barely any music. Perhaps the table order should be rearranged. The menu itself was quite well structured and local ingredients played a major role. Clean good flavors. However maybe the chef had just found out about gels in gastronomy as every dish contained gel of some kind which was a bit too much and lacked imagination. As a plus many dishes has some cracker or bread to finish the sauces. Sauces were delicious in general. The sommelier seemed a bit arrogant and barely any introductions to the wines or options were presented. The waiters waited from the wrong side several times and spilled water on our laps when pouring water. They took plates one time while we were still eating which was unprofessional. The dish introductions were very boring and unexciting. I would expectw in this level of restaurant more talk about the food and ingredients. The dishes were in general well made, some of the a bit too cold when served. Starter cod and pea soup was amazing. Desserts were delicious...
Read morePlace is awesome, This is the best Farm to table place on the Island. If you want to experience a “Michelin Star” chef, you have 2 Options…. The more casual option is located on the back of the hotel by the pool area called the Bistro. It has fantastic paellas and hamburgers for a very reasonable price, or do the degustation menu that is an incredible amazing dinner experience that last more than 2 hours… We did the most expensive option to test it....after the 7th plate we were already full… I loved the Pork, I will just go back for that, the Mango sorbet was Amazing!!! The Chef Andreu comes out constantly, talks with you and explains any questions you may have. We were really interested in all the farming and what he did, and how the garden and the hotel work, he gave us a quick tour and spend a good chunk of time talking to us. I strongly recommend this place. It is a little hard to find... you have to go towards "Cala Mesquida" and look for the Yellow sign that say: "Son Jaumel" Hotel Rural, but its totally worth it. You have to go with a calm peaceful state of mind... this is now a Fast Food chain restaurant. They have more than 20 people working on the kitchen, and serve very few people a day. You need to make a reservation...
