Restaurante Paco Rama — Restaurant in Loja

There isn’t a lot to choose between the gaggle of trout restaurants huddled between the Rio Frio and the motorway. What distinguishes one from another is probably personal - but for me it’s service, distance from traffic and food preparation. Having tried most of the restaurants Paco Rama is average, not great, but not bad and at least the seating is to one side of the square and not too noisy. One trick to Watch out for that is common practice, is to serve bread the moment you arrive - whether you ask for it, whether you eat it or whether you donate it to a passer by. The price will still be added to your Bill. It’s a common practice, but one that still irritates. Final tip. Don’t have coffee there, save your money. Beautiful, traditional restaurant with white linen table clothes. Large, picture windows overlooking the 'Rio Frio' River, tree-covered mountains and trout farm next door. Attentive, professional service. Wonderful atmosphere on a Sunday lunchtime whenit was packed with happy, chatty Spanish families. We(3 ladies) loved our chosen meal. We shared a starters of'migas' (traditional Winter dish of bread crumbs, fried in olive oil with garlic. Served with chorizo and melon balls). My worst steak ever.

We went there yesterday and must admit: we regret to have dinner there. Spain is well known for excellent food, but this restaurant doesn't fall under this pattern. We had grilled salmon - 13€ - the fish was sort of OK, but not better than fast food quality (with lots of fishbones). The steak (Entrecôte de Beu for 21€ ... ordered medium) was entirely rare, chewy and full of sinews and couldn't be cut. I was sending it back to the kitchen but the second try wasn't better.
