Run by a María Sineiro Fontenta and her husband, both oenologists by training, Lagar de Besada is a small winery of the Galician grape Albariño. Maria inherited her father’s winery and produces a modest batch of 30,000 bottles of excellent Albarińo, including a surprisingly good sparkling Albariño, using modern techniques. She leverages her training and heritage to both explore new products and to recover the flavors of her ancestors. || Portions of the grape not used in making wine are turned to soap, creams, and they also make a jelly made from Alvariño reduction. Read moreMy husband and I did a multi day wine tour throughout the entire Galicia region in October 2024 and this winery was one of the stops! Such a lovely family run winery! The special thing about this winery is that they were the first to start producing sparkling Albarino. For us it was really special to see this process and taste this wine just because it is so rare! We loved it so much we bought two bottles! This was also the only winery we visited who made their own Albarino grape "jelly" made from the leftover skins after the wine making process.
