Mas el Pí — Restaurant in Montagut i Oix

Well worth the 5KM walk from Camping Sadernes and greeted by a lovely family run (i think) restaurant. The outside terrace is lovely and very well shaded. It started to rain so we were called inside, and in my opinion not as nice, a bit like a canteen. There is no menu del dia but a varied assortment of tapas from €5 - €7. Slices of Courgette, pine nuts and parmesan were lovely. Finally came the large bill of €63!! Without choosing from the menu we opted for vino del casa not realising it was €9 a bottle and we had 2. We thought this was very expensive compared to most menu del dials (we live an hour away from here so we should know) They have a captive audience in that it is the only restaurant around, so please drop the high prices! If I could rate this restaurant 6 stars, I would in a heartbeat. My wife and I had an exceptional evening under the outdoor canopy indulging in authentic Catalan cuisine.

From the moment we sat down, we were struck by the warmth of the staff and the peaceful ambiance.

We ordered the house white wine, jamon iberico and potatoes stuffed with baccalà for apps, chicken with mushrooms and the local sausage for mains, and catalá (nougat ice cream with an anise liqueur) and carquinyoles (similar to biscotti) for dessert. All were delicious, but if we had to choose favorites, they'd be the baccala potatoes, mushroom chicken and catala.

We loved this restaurant, a short distance from Camping Montagut. Tucked away in the the trees, with beautiful views, we were welcomed by the very friendly owners. A simple menu of fresh, local ingredients with tempting specials, both meat and vegetarian. For entrees, the courgette carpaccio was simple, fresh and delicious; the local speciality of Olot Potatoes perfectly crispy and savoury; and the selection of different houmous were superb. But the pinnacle of the menu was outstanding entrecot steak, perfectly cooked. A great local winelist too. Reasonably priced for such a high standard of cooking in a really relaxed, informal setting.
