La Gallineta — Restaurant in Níjar

Hands down the best restaurant in the area. David, the owner, is impressively careful of his customers and genuinely seeking our comfort. Upon arrival, he asked us if we preferred a ambient temperature table or one close to the heating. He listened to our enquiries (pregnancy) and adapted the menu accordingly.

He has two types of menus: local from Andalusia and foreign from his travels across the globe. The restaurant is closed part of the winter which leaves them time to travel and discover new dishes, which they later translate into new offerings.

The style is unique too, I loved the chairs and the tiles. The photos on the wall are from their travel and they even have a special frame with the different layers of the wall illustrating the history of the building. Their wine carts cover is a picture of the floor tiles, amazing detail.

The price is around what you'd pay for an average menu in Western Europe, but the food is just sooooo much better.

La Gallineta is an outstanding restaurant. David and his Ecuadorean wife (sorry I cannot recall her name) are excellent hosts. We did not know what to chose so we left it in David's hands and oh wow it was good. Who knew Ajo Blanco (chilled almond soup) with a melon sorbet could be so amazing?! This place would hold its own against top restaurants anywhere. Yes, it is a bit more pricey than others in the area but it is worth every euro. We had 4 courses, an excellent bottle of wine and it came to about 125 euros for 2 of us (40 of which was the wine). The chefs are from Southern Europe, North Africa and South America and you get an amazing blend of their collective experience. Cannot recommend it enough. Thank you David and we hope you have a well earned...

Cinco estrellas relación calidad-precio. Probablemente el mejor restaurante de la zona de Cabo de Gata, y no está en San José, Rodalquilar o Las Negras, está en la pequeña población de paso El Pozo de los Frailes. Local pequeño a orillas de la carretera con una terraza muy agradable y un interior cuidado y original.

La carta es corta, quizá por ello tienen tan cogida la medida a los platos. Cocina de autor mediterránea con toques exóticos. Uso constante de especias y salsas curiosas, pero en la justa medida, para redondear los platos. Entrantes, pescados y carnes de muy buen gusto. Muy buenos arroces, al parecer tiene buena fama de ello, merecida, pues probamos el más atrevido de la carta, de inspiración oriental, muy sabroso, y nada pesado, aquí es donde radica creo yo el arte de esta cocina.

La carta de vinos es cortita, nada especial, aunque puedes probar referencias locales y alguna otra cosa para maridar adecuadamente la comida. Sirven degustación de vermuts.

Presentaciones originales, mesa coqueta, aunque algo pequeña. El servicio estuvo bien. Standing bajo. 30-35€/pers. de media, vino incluido. Relación calidad/precio comida: muy buena. Relación calidad/precio servicio: buena. Relación calidad/precio local: buena. RELACIÓN CALIDAD/PRECIO GLOBAL: muy buena.

Ojo: el servicio es muy rápido. Y cuando digo rápido es que puedes cenar o comer en 20 minutos, pues los platos tardan muy poco en servirse, incluido el arroz, hecho motivado quizá al tener una carta tan escasa, pues es sota-caballo-rey. La rapidez en exceso también puede resultar indeseable si quieres disfrutar de una velada distendida. No es un reproche, pues el servicio no apremia al cliente, solo que la comida es buena y se tarda muy poco en dejar el plato vacío. Volveremos cada vez que pasemos por cabo de gata. Espero que la carta se renueve cada...
