Restaurante Rio-Mar — Restaurant in Oliva

Having recently moved to a house less than 60 seconds walk to Restaurante Rio-Mar, was really looking forward to it becoming our regular bar/restaurant. This place used to be managed by the people who now manage Bellamar (more or less next door to Rio-Mar). Having visited Rio-Mar four times in five days, I can genuinely advise everyone to AVOID this bar/restaurant at all costs!

First visit - ordered a breakfast with coffee and orange juice. The breakfast arrived, but no coffee or orange juice. The waitress served three customers who had arrived after us their coffees, and I had to ask if we could have ours (by which time we had finished our breakfast). I also had to remind her about our orange juice, which arrived 10 minutes later.

Second visit - asked for a jug of aqua de Valencia (which is made with cava, orange juice, vodka and gin). The extremely RUDE waiter bought us out a jug of watery sangria that tasted as if it had come straight from a carton.

Third visit - sat at a table for 10 minutes, watched the waiter serve two tables who had arrived after me and completely ignore my presence, before walking out and enjoying a lovely meal at Bellamar.

Fourth visit (this evening) - sat at a table (which had no reservation sign on it) and then the same rude waiter from our second visit came out shouting at us 'this table is reserved! Find another table!' I said, calmly, 'ok, where would you like us to sit, are there tables around the other side?' And his response was 'I don't care, but you can't sit here, it is reserved.' He then continued to shout 'reserved!' Three times whilst my family and I gathered our belongings, to which I responded 'yes, we understand!'.

Don't waste your time at Restaurante Rio-Mar - I had really hoped the first couple of visits, they were just having a bad day, but after four visits, it's clear they really do not care about their customers at all.

I would leave no stars if I could. I generally don't write negative reviews, but we had a really poor experience at this restaurant. We sat down on the first day of our holiday and were excited about the menu - the fresh fish and rice dishes looked lovely. We got drinks with no issue. However, trying to order was incredibly difficult. The waiting staff continued to ignore us, while they served other Spanish customers who had arrived at the same time or after us. Three waiting staff members served a table who arrived after us and served their starters, while we were trying to catch their attention. The servers continued to studiously ignore us while moving tables and chairs around and taking payment for bills. Eventually, after 20 minutes or more, we decided to leave and the waiter asked us 'why?' in a passive aggressive manner - a strange thing to ask a customer. He seemed amused by the whole thing. We paid for our drinks and left.

I can see from other reviews that we're not the first people to feel ignored as English speakers at the restaurant. My husband speaks good Spanish and I have enough to get by in these situations, so we were not ordering in English.

We stayed for 10 days right next to this restaurant and didn't go in again after this experience. It's a shame because the food looked lovely and we would have spent time and money there if not for the bad service. We drove into Oliva instead for some lovely meals. I would advise for others to do the same and avoid this restaurant, especially if you're not a local or native...

Nefasto es poco. Podría enumerar todas las cosas incorrectas que sucedieron, pero me quedaré solo con unas pocas. Primero, puntos positivos: las sardinas estaban buenas. Ahora los negativos:

Nada más llegar, los camareros fueron MUY irrespetuosos con nosotros, llegando al punto de hacer bromas muy escatológicas e incluso con connotaciones bastante dañinas.

Pedimos dos jarras de sangría. Al ver que la segunda tardaba 15 minutos, la pedimos otra vez a otro camarero avisando que la habíamos pedido antes. A los dos minutos vienen con dos jarras. Dijeron que teníamos que quedarnos las dos porque teníamos que haberle avisado al camarero de antes que no la queríamos. Llegó un punto que se hizo hasta incómodo porque de verdad nos la estaba endosando. Hombre, después de quince minutos, y justo la última que pedimos tarda dos minutos… da que pensar. Sobre todo que son un poco estafas. Pero bueno, agachamos la cabeza y aceptamos el timo.

Mientras servían, se les cayeron dos veces los cubiertos encima nuestro (no solo un tenedor, la segunda vez un vaso) y no pidieron ni disculpas. Posteriormente, al servir los platos y cubiertos, lo hicieron tirándolos a la mesa. Debieron darse cuenta porque hicieron alguna mueca cuando cortamos la conversación en seco y se hizo el silencio. Muy incomodo.

No nos trajeron platos cuando trajeron la paella. Sí, la paella tradicional se toma de la paella con cuchara de madera, pero esto fue distinto. Ni si quiera había cuchara de madera.

Se cayó la sombrilla encima de nosotros y de la familia de al lado. Menos mal que tuvimos reflejos para cogerla, si no, habría causado un destrozo importante. Esto no habría sido para tanto si los camareros no se hubieran partido la caja y no ayudado mientras pasaba.

Cuando pedimos para llevar la comida que nos sobró, nos trajeron los recipientes. Vacíos. Ni un atisbo de emplatarla para llevar. Esto me pareció casi lo mas fuerte. Nunca me había pasado.

Esto, por supuesto, sin mencionar que las tortillas de camarones y los escombros eran congelados y de calidad pésima. El arroz no estaba tan mal, pero máximo un 6/10 (la morralla que usaron era de ínfima calidad) pero el atún…

El atún merece un punto a parte. Nunca, y digo NUNCA dejo comida en el plato. Me lo dejé ENTERO. No se si aprecia en la foto, pero a la vista, no parecía ni atún. Es que parecía foie malo o un solomillo. De verdad que no he comido nada tan escandalosamente malo en mi vida. Ni de coña.

De verdad que no exagero. Es de los peores sitios que he estado en mi vida, puede que de los tres peores, por detrás de bares de carretera chungos. Jamás me habían pasado tantas cosas a la vez en un mismo lugar. Una experiencia horrible y sinceramente, recomiendo encarecidamente NO ir. No por nada, no por mí, sino porque considero que deben darse cuenta del personal y el producto que ofrecen. Si no estuvieran donde están, habría quebrado hace mucho,...
