The True Heart of Basque Hospitality and a Perfect Turbot! My visit to Bodega Katxina was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. This is a beautiful restaurant in a stunning location, and it's clearly a popular spot for good reason. Upon arrival, I received a very warm welcome and was shown to one of the best tables in the house, right by the window with a magnificent view. The main reason for my visit was the famous grilled turbot, and it was cooked to absolute perfection — succulent, flavorful, and a perfect representation of the Basque 'asador' tradition. A truly delightful meal. But what truly made the evening special was the service. My waitress was, I believe, a little nervous about my being an English speaker — and frankly, I was just as nervous about my Spanish! But we communicated perfectly through smiles and pointing, and it was a heartwarming reminder that a genuine, friendly attitude is the only language that truly matters in hospitality. Her warmth and willingness to help broke down any potential barrier. A huge plus was the chef himself, who took the time to walk through the dining room, greeting guests at their tables. He was incredibly friendly and pleasant, and it's clear he takes great pride in his restaurant and the happiness of his customers. El lugar es muy bonito, se puede disfrutar del exterior con un buen txakoli y algun aperitivo antes de entrar a comer. La comida esta deliciosa, en especial el Rodaballo.

En mi caso tuvieron un fallo imperdonable en un restaurante que pretende tener una alta calidad. Fui con mi pareja por nuestro aniversario, habiendo reservado en Junio para comer en Septiembre. La mesa que nos pusieron fue al lado de la barra donde sirven los camareros, es decir, idas y venidas de ellos, para sacar bebidas, copas, cafes, vasos, ....es decir un constante ir y venir de personas, ademas del ruido de copas, botellas... Vamos un ambiente NADA AGRADABLE. En la foto se puede apreciar donde nos ubicaron, donde ponen el taburete de barra. Antes de sentarnos a comer se lo comente a la metre, pero me dijo que no habria problema, pero a mi no me sono nada bien, y asi fue. Es mejor denegar la reserva a alguien que llama tarde y decir que estas lleno, a intentar llenar al maximo el comedor e inventarte sitios donde no corresponde tener una comida. Un restaurante que pretende denotar calidad la pierde con estos gestos, ya que parece que va a sacar el mayor beneficio economico a costa del confort del cliente.

Su explicacion fue que yo era el tercero en la lista de reservas, pero cuando llame en Junio me dijeron que era el primero en reservar, y pedi expresamente mesa en la ventana. Habia muchas mesas, grandes grupos y sinceramente, la sensacion es que metieron a otras parejas, a las cuales parecian conocer, en sitios mas adecuados y nuestra mesa la dejaron de lado. Una pena y un GRAN FALLO. La comida tiene que estar en consonancia con el ambiente y el entorno.

Ademas, a la llegada, habia alguna camarera por el jardin, pero ninguna se acerco a indicarnos que debiamos acceder al local si queriamos tomar algo, ni a nosotros ni a clientes posteriores a nosotros. Una minima recepcion por parte del personal hubiera sido lo correcto.

Como he comentado la cocina fabulosa!

Espero que si vuelvo algun dia, no ocurra esto, no a mi, si no a cualquiera que se acerque por alli con su pareja o familia, ya que la experiencia que vas a disfrutar, termina...

We ended up at this restaurant due to a recommendation from a taxi driver. We showed up without a reservation and were quite nervous about finding a table, but the staff were accomodating and found us a table.

The starters, the grilled fish, the dessert and especially the local wine were amazing. The staff were all very nice, especially señor Iñaki Zendoia. We ended up bringing home 6 bottles of their wine.

We may have gone here on a whim, but it became one of my family's most treasured restaurant experiences.

Highly recommended. (You may want to call ahead and make a reservation incase you aren't as lucky...
