Last Sunday, January 12th 2025, our family dined at Masia Bellver in Oropesa del Mar. Despite it being a classy looking establishment with an impressive menu, we all suffered from severe food poisoning. We experienced sweating, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, followed by weakness in the muscles and pain in the joints lasting more than 48 hours.
What has really upset me and prompted this review, is that we contacted the restaurant to inform them but received no meaningful response. The general tone of their reply was that this is a fairly normal thing, we were just unlucky. Maybe it is normal for them! They have demonstrated a complete lack of concern for our health and wellbeing, and we have passed our concerns on to the local public health authorities. It seems very unlikely that we would be the only ones affected, and urge any others to speak up.
I have never left any form of negative review for any restaurant previously, anywhere in the world. That said, I have been travelling for the last 30 years, regularly across three continents, and have never once experienced food poisoning before.
We expected an apology and a thorough investigation of what happened. We urge the restaurant to investigate and take the necessary measures to try and ensure this does not happen again. Food safety should be the top priority for any business in the sector, let alone one where the standards appear so high and the cost of the food implies the utmost care and quality.
👉 If anyone else has experienced similar issues at this restaurant, please share your story. Holding these people to account, and spreading a warning of our experiences, has become our only option to protect other people and try to prevent this from recurring. Certainly the restaurant have shown no interest in doing this. Our holiday has really been negatively affected, with all plans for the following two days having to be cancelled. I wish we had never...
Read moreA beautiful restaurant setting with indoor and outdoor options. We sat outside and had a spectacular lunch with our children. The staff were very attentive and even though our Spanish is almost non-existent they helpfully provided an English language menu. I’m so happy that they did because we really got to meet indulge ourselves with some delicious creations. Starting with the beautiful bread, tomato and aioli, we also got to enjoy oxtail in brioche, tomato salad with a stunning buratta and tuna and cantabrian anchovies on tomato bread. The main course of whole Seabass was perfectly cooked and presented but the fillet steak was unfortunately did not have a great flavour, though was well cooked and presented. Desserts were sublime, especially the torrija- bread pudding with spices. The price was at the higher end but definitely worth it for the quality of the food cooking and ambiance. There were so many other dishes I wished to try so will definitely return. Highly recommended if you are...
Read moreA slice of paradise on the edge of Oropesa with Benicassim. The place is divided into various areas/restaurants: the main restaurant Masía Bellver, with three separate rooms and a beautiful terrace/ patio, El Puente (gorgeous outdoor area, grilled meats) and El Bosque (in the woods, down a gorgeous path, by the sea). I believe they have a fourth restaurant called El Patio in Benicassim. We had lunch in the Masía and it was spectacular! The room (main Salón) is beautifully done, a conversion of an old farming building, the big glass windows and warm atmosphere make it very special. The food and the service were impeccable. Special mention to the octopus, which was so tender that could be cut with a spoon, and the paellas were to die for. The desserts were also spectacular. We then walked down the path to El Bosque to enjoy a coffee by the sea. What a...
