Café-Bar Casalola — Restaurant in Periana

We have been twice. The first time we had the menú del día. The choice was from the standard Spanish restaurant choice of straightforward grilled meat and fish dishes and a few stews and soups. It was all excellent – good ingredients, well cooked. Next time I would ask for a little less salt on the grilled meat. 21 euros for 3 courses with 2 extra drinks.

The second time, we chose from the menu. We shared an ENORMOUS goats cheese, bacon and walnut salad (8 euros – enough for 3 or 4 as a starter). I had the sartenada of black pudding, chips and egg (it came with 3 eggs!). Really good black pudding, proper chips and excellent eggs (possibly from the hens across the road). The caramelised onion was too sweet for my taste, but it was easy enough to avoid and next time I will ask for less, or maybe none. My partner had a Plato de Los Montes; again the portions were huge (the dog benefitted) and the food a cut above the norm. With one glass of good white wine and 2 beers, the bill was 32 euros.

Sadly, there is almost nothing on the menu for vegetarians, the only options really being the salad without the bacon, and egg and chips.

Service is friendly. There are several tables outside, under cover or in the sun, for people keen to take their dog and/or minimise their Covid risk. Although it is right on the road, it is not very busy and there are views to the top of the spectacular ridges to the north. There are plenty of...

Puedo dar dos opiniones de este café-bar. En el puente de diciembre en concreto, hemos comido en festivo y en laborable. En festivo no hay menú y sí platos a la carta. Nos llevamos una grata sorpresa en cuanto a la cantidad de la comida empleada y precio contenido aunque no tirado, como algunos pueden pensar, pero platos buenos y buen servicio con los camareros. En laborable hay posibilidad de menú y es económico y muy completo. En laborable no sé si es así siempre o coincidió, pero hay menos personal camarero. La cuenta entre a la carta o menús, es considerable (lo vale), pero con el menú no te quedas corto, 70€ almuerzo a la carta (4 personas) , 38€ con menús, aproximadamente. Recomiendo parar y comer, a nosotros (famila con niños) nos solucionó la papeleta. Hay sitio más que suficiente para aparcar en un llano. Dispone de terraza cubierta con toldos, también mesas totalmente al exterior o en el interior.
