El Caserón de Guaro — Restaurant in Periana

This is a gem of a restaurant. Set against a dramatic mountain backdrop with fantastic views south from a beautiful terrace (there is also a largo indoor dining-room). The menu is simple, and food is plentiful and of good quality. Service is friendly, and prices reasonable. We’ve eaten there several times, and always enjoy it. We go each time we visit the area, which is several times a year. Open Fri/Sat/Sun and on fiesta days currently (February) - probably worth booking on Sunday, especially if you want to eat outside! Can be a destination or stop on a dramatic walk or bike ride (we normally cycle), but there’s also good parking if that’s not for you.

NEW: We were really pleased to see that the Casona is open again, and cycled there for lunch today (14/01/24). It’s still really good: lovely food, very pleasant and friendly service and reasonable prices! And a beautiful day to enjoy the terrace and views too. Lots of Spanish people there, so a really good atmosphere. We will be back next month - fantastic walks and bike rides...

We drove up with great expectations and the site and views didn't disappoint. The place was busy and eventually we got a menu about drinks. I chose a soup to start and bar-b-qued leg of lamb, my husband ordered seafood soup and rosada. Both soups were barely warm, tasty but tepid. My lamb arrived on a cold plate. 3 dry lamb steaks about 1mm thick, no seasoning with fries. It was so tough I couldn't cut it. My husband fish was better but accompanied by canned veg! Why? All restaurants here use canned or jarred veg like it's hard to find fresh vegetables? Will not ...

SUNDAY 16th March 2025 DISSAPOINTED We arrived with great expectations returning after 5 years. Our table had been reserved, and were given a nice warm welcome! The atmosphere was busy for a Sunday, The waitress showed us a choice of steaks that were to be shared between us men. While waiting, we started with mixed salad and olive oil in short supply for 4 people with a stingy quarter segment of 1 egg on top. The dining room was very cold and full at 2pm. Now the man meal! The Beef Steaks arrived as ordered medium, but very vey fatty and tough to eat with just a handful of chips. NOT ENJOYABLE! Dissapontment was an understatement! CONCLUSION VERY BAD CHOICE OVERPRICED..... ONLY THING THEY GOT RIGHT WAS THE COST. BECAUSE YOU WERE BUSY YOUR REPLY WAS NOT EXCEPTABLE AND UNCARING CONSIDERING IT WAS 75€ Any choice we made should have been perfect with your reputation.

Llegamos con grandes expectativas, volviendo después de 5 años. El ambiente estaba ajetreado para ser domingo. La camarera nos mostró una selección de filetes para compartir. Mientras esperábamos, empezamos con una ensalada mixta para 4 personas, para nuestra sorpresa, con un tacaño cuarto de huevo encima. El comedor estaba muy frío y lleno a las 2 p. m. ¡Y ahora, el menú para hombres! Los filetes llegaron como los pedimos, al punto, pero muy grasosos y duros de comer, con solo un puñado de patatas fritas. ¡NADA AGRADABLE! ¡Decepción! ¡Se queda corto!

CONCLUSIÓN: MUY MALA ELECCIÓN, CARO... LO ÚNICO QUE ACERTARON...
