Cerveceria Bernaldo — Restaurant in Ponteceso

Hemingway once wrote of “a clean, well-lighted place” in one of my favorite short stories by him. I can’t think of better words to describe Cerveceria Bernardo. I visit each time I’m in the area, for no apparent reason other than the charming magnetic attraction the place holds for me.

My first time there was with an ex. We tried percebes - gooseneck barnacles - for the first time that evening. The juices squirted all over his T-shirt, and we laughed. It’s a fond memory for me.

I’m partial to the baby chorizos stewed in wine, and the zamburiñas which are broiled with a few bread crumbs on top here. And their papas are my favorite French fries in the world. But more than anything it’s the calming charm of the place, its outdoor patio against a postage stamp sized slice of green on the placid port of Corme, that...

I stopped by this place for dinner, and it was a mixed experience. The decor is nice, with a modern, stylish feel that’s great for a night out. The staff was friendly, but service felt a bit inconsistent, especially when it came to refills. The menu offered a good variety, which I liked, but the food didn’t quite deliver. My dish was cooked well but lacked the punch I was expecting. The sides were fine, and the dessert was actually pretty good. Prices were fair, but I expected more for the cost. It’s a decent spot for a casual meal, but I’m not rushing to return. Maybe they’ll step it...

El fin de semana pasado, nos desplazamos hasta Corme en plena Costa da Morte (A Coruña), para disfrutar de su Carnaval de Verano. ¡Fiestón en toda regla! Y no hemos podido escoger un lugar mejor donde recargar energías… ¡La terracita con vistas al puerto de cervecería Bernaldo!

Hemos tirado de raciones, todas ellas deliciosas y MUY abundantes, para salir rodando de allí.

Comenzamos con unos mejillones al vapor, que conquistarían a todo buen comedor.

Continuamos por unas croquetas caseras de jamón y otras de calamares en su tinta… ¡Menuda pinta! Absolutamente perfectas, de rebozado crujiente y una masa consistente, suave y densa. Se desacían solas en el paladar y… ¡Menuda explosión de sabor!

Hablando de calamares, sería extraño que no se nos antojaran unos buenos chipirones fritos, ¿verdad? Pues sí, ¡sí que los hubo! Venían nadando en un mar de patatas fritas y… ¡Obviamente, cayeron en nuestras redes! ¡Sabían que consolaban!

Todo ello, acompañado por el vinito de la casa que estaba especialmente bueno, entraba solo.

¡Menudo festín nos pegamos! ¡inmejorable! Atención agradable y rápida, comida exquisita, vistas al hipnotizante vaivén del mar, ¿qué más podríamos pedir?

Volveremos sin duda, nos han quedado unas ganas tremendas de probar los afamados percebes...
