Mesón del Vino — Restaurant in Requena

The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, but the service is less desired as we had to wait 45 minutes plus for the waiters to take our drink order. The wines that we wanted (two options) both were unavailable. They suggested another wine of inferior quality and taste. When we went to try it, we mentioned it was too jammy and the waiter continued to pour wine in our glasses without asking whether or not we wanted it. Our meal, tapas and a primer plato also took over an hour. At least a good wine would have made the wait bearable, but alas we couldn’t even rely on that. The food was adequate but nothing noteworthy; in fact, some dishes were quite salty. Definitely not reflective of the high cost. The meal cost an outrageous amount for Spain. Overall the atmosphere was nice, but our reservation was for 14:00 and our drink order was not taken until 14:45. At that time we had to ask again for the food menu because we only had the wine menu for 45 minutes.

Upon order our food, it took 45 minutes for the appetizers to come out: croquetas and an alcachofa dish. Our main dishes did not come out until 16:15…more than two hour after our reservation time.

Lastly, the wine we wanted (2 options) was no longer available, so the server recommended another bottle of similar price. We were not familiar with it, but decided to try it. When we tried it we said it was too fruity, yet he continued to pour every else’s wine at the time, so we were stuck with a bottle of wine that we did not enjoy.

Very slow and uneven service. We arrived at 1330 with a reservation hoping to leave around 1500. There were two other customers but no staff, who eventually arrived at about 1340. Our reservation was confirmed and indeed, after about 1400 the restaurant filled up. We chose a goat cheese salad as a starter (very good) a fish and a steak dish. These did not arrive until 1500 and the steak was not as requested. The original customers left as did at least two other tables who arrived and been served after us. Staff very friendly but no explanation for the delay. The outside looks interesting but too hot to sit outside and on the basis of our experience, I would be sceptical about ever getting served.
