Charcoals and seafood Smoked oyster with caviar was delicate, full of flavors and just excellent.
We also had the sea urchins and that goes to yet another level. Nothing mild here, just an explosion of sea flavors. It has been 8 years since a ban on fishing them in the area and we were luckily enough to try on the time the ban was lifted. I can only recommend… or maybe not so they are not banned again : )
For the main course we shared grilled Lubina and Mero. It was overall nice but it could have taken a little more flavor on the grill… that is for our taste, of course! Also the Mero was borderline needing a minute or more of cooking. The Lubina, on the other hand, was perfectly grilled.
It’s rather expensive but the amazing location, the super quality food and the great service just about justifies the high bill…. Nah, it’s very expensive!

Just a short drive from the lovely coastal town of Ribadesella, it’s possibly one of the best ways to spend a long lazy lunch to be found in Northern Spain…well anywhere. No fussy pretentiousness in the service or the setting that many restaurants serving this quality fall into the trap of. This place excels and making the most of the fabulously fresh fish that sits packed in ice ready to go straight over the charcoal grill. Knowledgeable, likeable and happy staff engage with the dining experience expertly. The explain where it’s needed, they back off when you’re deep in conversation or eating and they seem to be genuinely proud of the great service they are providing. Abel Alvarez, the chef and inspiration behind Güeyu Mar, is the absolute master of his charcoal fired grills. He effortlessly manages every plate with a man born of the love of what he does and the confidence that comes with many years of experience. He is a pleasure to...
