El Remedio — Restaurant in Ruiloba

I went 2 weeks ago with a friend to the restaurant because of the good recommendations. But I was so deeply disappointed that I even need to write I recommendation to this.

Our first impression of the waiter was so highly arrogant that we thought we are really unwelcome in this restaurant. Honestly if you get this impression from a restaurant they have a big problem.

We were placed outside under a pergola and were not asked if we like the place. Well the waiter gave us the menu. We have chosen a starter and wanted to order the main dishes, but there on startet the problem. My friend doesn’t like lamb or cow, he prefers pig. The only on the menu were the pork cheeks, as we wanted to order the waiter said they are out of stock. Sorry at 20.30 out of stock ?

He didn’t supported us in finding a different solution neither he offered instead of the main dishes a variation of starters for a special price or something like that, he even didn’t said sorry.

After the startes we left starving the restaurant. Honestly not a visit worth it.

Outstanding experience at El Remedio. World class food, spectacular setting and impeccable treatment.

From arriving to leaving, our experience was one of the best we have had in over 16 years of living in Spain. The setting, a promontory with some of the best views along the Cantabrian coastline, is the first thing that takes your breath away. And a sign of things to come.

The food is original, inventive and very carefully thought through and plated. A mix of flavours and textured, all presented stylishly which added to the whole experience before we'd even tasted a mouthful. Everything we ate from starter to mains and dessert was fresh and delicious.

I have to mention the staff. We met several members of the El Remedio team, each one of whom were unfailingly polite, courteous and professional. Whatever the secret sauce is of this place, they have got it absolutely spot on.

And for what you get in terms of a dining experience, it is very reasonably priced.

All in all, a wonderful afternoon....

Unbeatable location, but the service was terrible. First of all, we were passed over. Secondly, we were not told by the waitress that you had to book for evening meal. Thirdly, after waiting an incredibly long time to get our drink, we were told by a second waiter that we should not order a main meal but "para picar" because it would take at least 20 minutes. We said we would check the menu again. After about 20 minutes when we finally got the waiter's attention again, we ordered. The food was very nice but was brought on aca plate (in times of Covid-19). Also I have doubts that they were observing regulations because people were allowed in without table. No handwash either. People were allowed to sit down at uncleaned tables.
