We had a reservation at Jul’s Ibiza for a group of six, but unfortunately, all of us suffered from food poisoning after lunch that same day. We called and messaged the restaurant to explain the situation, and while they rightly enforced their no-show policy of €100 per guest (as per their cancellation terms), we decided to honor the reservation despite not feeling well.
Let’s start with the obvious: the venue is absolutely stunning. The ambiance and setting are undeniably beautiful, which makes the disappointment that followed all the more frustrating.
We were all still unwell and therefore ordered only six salads — a light, simple meal that fit our condition. The staff’s reaction to our modest order was nothing short of disgraceful. We were blatantly looked down on and treated with visible disrespect, as if we didn’t belong there simply because we weren’t ordering full courses or expensive items. The waiters were cold, dismissive, and frankly rude throughout the entire experience.
To make matters worse, the food itself was shockingly mediocre. For a place that clearly wants to position itself as a high-end dining destination, the quality of the dishes was far below what one would expect. Tasteless, uninspired, and not worth a fraction of the price.
Jul’s is a place that relies heavily on aesthetics and hype, but fails to deliver where it really counts: food quality and professional service. Sadly, it seems that unless you’re visibly spending big, you won’t be treated with...
Read moreOverly pretentious restaurant. We were five and were given a table outside. It was a bit of a windy day and we decided to ask If we could change our table. It took them 15 min to decide and supposedly we couldn’t move to the next table as it was reserved so they moved us to a smaller table inside. It turned out it was empty all night.
Then we kept waiting for the food menu which we could see before it was explained by the waiter. We appreciate explanations but I think we can kind of have an idea beforehand unless someone with unproven sales skills tries to push for the more expensive dishes…
The wine list includes wines that are not available and the supposed sommelier in fancy pants doesn’t even know upfront. Also the same supposed sommelier has no shame to ask if we wanted to pick a wine before we have seen and decided what food to eat and to suggest a different wine after everyone was enjoying the first bottle. Guess sommelier here means good sales person - which as a sales professional I can appreciate - but it would be definitely non appreciated in a restaurant where most people are on holidays and trying to have a good time.
There are so many better options in Ibiza to eat. I’ve been coming to the Island every year during the last 6 years and to be honest this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had… 3 starts is me being generous and appreciative of the quality of the food - which is good and could be great of actually...
Read moreLocation ist great, the food was an 7/10 because of a lack of spices for my taste and the prices, which seems like they were rolling a dice, when creating those as the dishes honestly aren't worth the money (e.g. a crab salad as big as my fist for 44 euros)
But the main problem for us was, that we weren't allowed to order what we want and we're forced to take a main course and weren't allowed to take multiple appetizers, which are all in the same price range. They argued, that if we don't take a main course and an appetizer, we cannot "experience their philosophy". So obviously they're philosophy is to tell people what to order and how much. The restaurant manager (?) explained all of that to us and was trying to bully us into ordering two dishes each and spend more, which seems very desperate. I would have happily ordered more, but I don't respond well to bullying. Even on death row in prison, the inmates have a free choice of what to eat.
Furthermore they seemed they were in a hurry, which gives you the impression they want to squeeze as much money as possible out of you and then get rid of you as fast as possible. For my understanding such a stressful behaviour and atmosphere isn't justified with this ridiculously high prices.
Happy to come back and give them another chance if they change their attitude and their...
