After 7 weeks of walking, my 11 year old son and I wanted to celebrate the night before reaching Santiago. I searched out a restaurant that had his favourite meal - Milenesa du Polo - and we walked over a kilometer from our accomodations to get to Restaurante Sabugueira. We needed to wait until the kitchen opened - no big deal - so we sat at the bar and had a drink and played some games. Then we were able to be seated when they opened at 8:30pm. So far all was well. We ordered. And then it all fell apart. My sons meal came. Mine did not. He got his drink. I did not. Others were seated. Ordered. Ate. And had dessert before we literally had to jump into our waiters face to get his attention to ask where the other meal was. By now my son, who was waiting for me to have food to eat, had a cold dinner. When my plate arrived, my drink never came. My son flagged down another waitress to ask for a drink which she pulled from the cooler and thumped on the table. We've been treated with disregard before on our journey but never with this level of outright disrespect and rudeness. My son went to the bathroom and I asked someone three times about paying the bill before I was waved out of restaurant and told to pay at the bar. At this point I was literally crying. I dont understand why others were served and treated well and we werent. We are super polite, easy Canadians who never say anything rude or act arrogant. We're pilgrims, we smile, we say please and thank you, be try to be respectful and kind..... but this night was simply a horrendous way to "celebrate" the end to an incredible journey, and we both left feeling upset and disheartened. What could have been a special memory will now be a night we both...
Read moreAfter missing check in for my 6 am connecting flight, I was hungry and tired and went dragging a 20kg suitcase looking for breakfast. I had no phone service and very low standards for this meal. I told the waitress I had solomente un poco Espanol, but that I wanted bacon y huevos y patates. She brought me this plate and I was so, so happy. Along with this wonderful tortilla espanola (?) thingy which I had never tried before. Marvailloso
Muy contento...

A wide variety of dishes are reasonably priced and very popular with walkers on the Camino. They start serving earlier in the evening unlike most other restaurants in the area. It does get busy, which, for me is a good sign. This was...
