Ca na Toneta is a secret spot in mallorca that provides an outstanding overall experience. We had an absolutely unique & unmatched evening - a culinary trip into the local Spanish cuisine. Make sure to reserve a spot a week in advance at minimum, as the overall capacity is below 20 parties, which makes the whole restaurant feel more like you’d be sitting in someone’s home - which even is the case here.
The experience starts with an aperitif behind their shop, on a nicely set terrace, with a view on the gardens, while you wait to be seated one party at a time. Thus, there is no overwhelming inflow of guests or real waiting time, which also allows the servers to not be stressed out and offer a personal touch and explanation of the current menu.
The staff was great and overall service was extraordinary. Two sisters founded the company 27 years ago out of a respectable ethical and respectable fashion. Have a look at their website or Instagram and you’ll see what I mean. The menu changes every month and is a set 9 course menu. All ingredients are locally sourced, sustainably produced and regionally grown. The setting is very cozy and perfect for a date night. Local artists decorate the courtyard every season. Additionally, there is a lot of greenery and grape vines cover the patio. The tableware is handmade and specially crafted ceramic ware, also from local artisans. This is rounded off with cute Wood-ware serving tools also uniquely made for the restaurant. Make sure you bring some time, as we’ve spent over four hours enjoying the stay.
A shop complements the restaurant where you can buy most items used by the cooks and servers.
Prices are on the higher end and are completely adequate, keeping in mind the origin of the idea for the business.
If you’re looking for a unique, cozy experience that rivals most high-class gastronomies, even outdoes most chic places, Ca na Toneta is my absolute...
Read moreWe recently had dinner at Ca Na Toneta, knowing in advance that it is a high-end restaurant. With the tasting menu at €100 per person and wine pairing at €65, our expectations were naturally high. We had informed the team beforehand that we do not eat olives and that my wife is vegetarian.
The setting is charming, with a primitive and sustainable design approach. While some elements, such as the coasters and hand-stitched cloths, felt a bit too minimalistic for our taste, the overall atmosphere was pleasant. We later learned there is a receiving area for guests to wait, which would have been helpful to know in advance, as we spent the time waiting in the village.
What we missed, however, was a thoughtful adaptation of the menu to our dietary requests. In place of the olives, nothing was added, and for the vegetarian dishes, the meat or fish was replaced with some simple herb branches and/or leaves, resulting in incomplete plates for my wife. Portions also felt modest, and I left still a little hungry.
Service-wise, while professional, the team’s demeanor felt somewhat distant, and we did not experience the warm, welcoming atmosphere we had hoped for. Also, on a dinner of €330, adding table water to the bill felt greedy.
Given the premium pricing, we believe there is an opportunity to enhance both the vegetarian offering and the overall guest experience, which would bring the service and menu in line with the restaurant’s otherwise unique and...
Read moreI gave the restaurant two stars because the environment is very nice. We liked the cocktail terrace and the romantic courtyard where we ate really was very pretty, but unfortunately the food was disappointing. It’s hard to pinpoint why the majority of the dishes didn’t work but I’d say many of the flavour combinations didn’t quite work and others just lacked the punch that would make them memorable. It all felt very style over substance. This is with the exception of the Tumbet which was the best we’d had in Mallorca.
I think part of the issue was that the menu was largely vegetarian (with touches of fish and one tiny touch of meat) and we didn’t know this before we went. I think making a fully satisfying tasting menu with so little meat and fish is more of a challenge (if you are carnivorous like we are!) but that said we ate plenty of great vegetarian food in Mallorca that was better and for a much more reasonable price!
From a service perspective the staff are all very pleasant and professional but it almost borders on too formal whereby you feel like they’re offering you the privilege of eating the art that they are offering. So a tad pretentious I’d say.
Overall it was a mediocre meal that was absolutely not worth the price, which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it after the...
