Took a mountain road drive and came across the tiny mountainside village of Tarbena. The scenery leading up to the village is breathtaking. Decided to stop somewhere for a 'quick bite' to eat. Beware!!!! No where in rural Spain is it possible or even polite to have a 'quick bite'. Us Brits really need to slow down sometimes. Well we were seated by friendly staff and the chef himself came to talk to us. "No Paella. It's impossible... " he said. "Never mind we have pork and lamb and so much good food" We had Wine, lager, bread with garlic paste, a kind of sweet chewy starter to dip the bread in, we also had a nice Greek salad, I had leg of lamb and wife had pork chops. All served with Mediterranean roasted veg and a massive bottle of ice cold water.... all for 43Euros. Absolutely everything we were served was perfection, first class, home cooking...

Everyone went out of their way to prepare a delicious 3 course meal to takeaway so my chronically ill wife could also enjoy it, as she was unable to get to the restaurant. They do not normally provide take out meals but they very kindly did on this occasion, it was all presented beautifully and was very delicious and freshly cooked with wonderful ingredients, the Paella was incredible! We thought that was classy as we'd expected a Casera or something similar. We didn't eat but the open kitchen looked and smelled fantastic.
