If you are on holiday in the Canary Islands and are looking for something special in Lanzarote, you should visit the unique restaurant El Diablo. In this restaurant, everything is prepared using the heat of the volcano - without electricity or gas. Discover Spain's most extraordinary restaurant.

The El Diablo (“The Devil”) restaurant was built around a volcanic mouth and is located near Teguise in the center of Timanfaya National Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the most beautiful part of Lanzarote. Due to the geological conditions, the building could not be built on a conventional foundation, but was built on basalt slabs. This is because there is a 400⁰C hot lava pool just two meters below the restaurant.

The chefs at El Diablo place their grills over the hole and cook the meat in a completely natural way. The technique was invented by a famous architect from the Canary Islands, César Manrique, who calls it the “volcano grill”. The restaurant serves all types of volcanically roasted food, including steaks, grilled chicken, sausages and potatoes, as well as exquisite fresh Canarian fish and seafood.

El Diablo in Lanzarote also offers guests some of the best views on the island. The restaurant features huge glass windows that offer panoramic views of the national park's volcanic landscape, which stretches over almost 52 km2 down to the blue Atlantic Ocean. These are the “Montañas del Fuego”, the fire mountains of Lanzarote, which consist of around a hundred dormant volcanoes. Don't worry - the last eruption was about 200 years ago, so your steak won't be overcooked there...

And what is the best:

Outside the restaurant in a safe place special men will present you a „show“: They fill water in a hole in the earth and a few seconds later a hot water eruption comes out (a...

We ate here after finishing the guided coach tour around the volcanic park. The food is mainly based on BBQ and cooked using the heat of the volcano.

We had roasted chicken along with chicken and pork kebabs. Both were very tender, succulent and tasty. Our daughter had the breaded chicken and french fries and commented that it's the best she's eaten.

The service was quite quick, almost rushed and would have preferred a bit of time to read the menu. For example, before we knew it we all had a bread roll and butter, which was great, however when we read the menu we realised it was €1.80 each and too late to change your mind if we'd wanted too. Luckily we didn't mind but I can see it would be difficult if you didn't.

The views were amazing and how often do you get to say you've eaten on a volcano with a view of volcanos.

One bad point, the parking is atrocious. I mean really bad if it's busy. We arrived at about 12:30 for the bus tour and it was bedlam. The parking attendants try to squeeze you into the smallest spaces and clearly don't care. Most spaces are on a very steep hill and inappropriately small, with lots of doors swinging in the wind. I could barely get out of the car and ended up moving the car to somewhere on the flat but it was still quite precarious. You'll probably have a hire car which means you don't want to dent it so I would suggest you arrive after 2pm when it really quiets down and the food is...

We had previously visited the visitor centre and we decided that we wanted to take the bus tour. The bus tour was 12 euros each so for four of us that's just shy of 50 euros. We drove approx 2 miles to the car park where we directed to a parking place. To board the bus you have to have a mask. Covid rules that may change. If you need one they are 95 cents each in the shop. We took the bus and went on the tour of the lava fields. There was a pre recorded commentary in Spanish English and German which was informative. The landscape reminded me of the pictures from mars. The coach ride felt a bit like a roller coaster but then that just added to the fun. After we left the bus we saw a man putting water into small metal pipes that were in the ground. The water quickly heated up and came out like a geyser. We then had lunch. We all loved the food and the service was quick and friendly. We ordered starters and main courses but it was all delivered together. The food was on the expensive side but we knew that before we came. Menu is by QR code. All my...

Restaurante El Diablo, located in the heart of the Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote, offers a truly unique dining experience by cooking its dishes using the geothermal heat of the volcano. Designed by the renowned architect César Manrique, the restaurant features large windows that provide stunning panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic landscapes. The menu includes a variety of meats and fish cooked on a grill that channels natural volcanic heat, reaching temperatures of up to 450 degrees Celsius. Popular options include half chicken, pork and chicken skewers, and entrecôte. Traditional Canarian dishes like “papas arrugadas” with mojo sauce are also available. Recognized by National Geographic as one of the most impressive restaurants in the world, El Diablo combines gastronomy, architecture, and nature in an unparalleled setting.
