Cal Ganxo — Restaurant in Valls

Fabulous traditional Calçotada in an old barnhouse/winery. Great atmosphere and ambiance in this beautiful old building. Fantastic service. First, immediately when we arrived we were served marinated olives and potato chips (UK: crisps), house red wine served in a porrón, and mineral water. Then after a short while a huge serving of Calçots with Romesco sauce, beautifully grilled, black on the outside and white and tender inside. The waitress showed us how to peel and eat the Calçots. After that we moved on to the second course: a very generous serving of grilled Lamb and local Sausages with white beans. After the big amount of Calçots we only could taste the meat, but the kind waitress gave us a doggy bag. It was enough for dinner the following day! With the meat we received a bottle of great Cava. To round it off, we had a very good Crema Catalana, very smooth with a very crispy coating of caramelized sugar on top, and a cup of Café com Leite. I accidently came up with this restaurant, because I couldn't make reservation and there was no table for originally planned one. But I really wanted to try Calsot during my trip and the situation came out to be lucky for me! This restaurant is a jewel.

The servers are very friendly and nice (there was one who can speak English well and able to explain how to eat and made us happy with the conversation; but not only the man the others also very kind). He said the first impression of the food is very important and the calsot of this restaurant is the right pick.

The ambience of the restaurant is cozy as well (the surrounding is literally no where - was not sure whether there is indeed an restaurant! but when you enter it is totally different), there were people who cooked calsots outside and I could find that they are genuine.

Ha sido una experiencia increíble y muy recomendable ir a comer a casa de Cal Ganxo.

🤵 Lo que más nos ha gustado ha sido su personal tan atento y amable, constantemente haciéndote pasar un buen rato, sirviéndote de manera constante exactamente con lo que necesitabas sin necesidad que lo pidieras. Por ejemplo, vaciando el plato de las pieles de calçot constantemente para que no se te acumularan y pasando a preguntar si estaban en su punto y estábamos agusto varias veces. Solo tengo palabras de agradecimiento de lo bien que nos han tratado. Por otro lado nos han preguntado si íbamos a repetir de calçots i han traído la cantidad justa y necesaria para quedar saciados pero no demasiado. Increíble.

🥩 Por otro lado, toda la comida ha sido espectacular. A pocos restaurantes suelo dar esta crítica y suelo ser muy sincera. Para empezar un plato de patatas y olivas de buena calidad, siguiendo de un plato de salsa de calçots por persona más el pan. La salsa estaba increíble, ojalá saber la receta. Sí es cierto que el pan de pagés es el único fallo que he encontrado, estaba un poco pasado, pero nos han traído tomate ajos aceite y sal y estaba riquísimo también. Los calçots de primerísima calidad y recién hechos, de otro mundo, se caían las pieles solas. Puedes repetir las veces que desees. De segundo te traen una parrillada de carne de calidad suprema, totalmente inesperado. Y acompañado con unas secas y morcilla y alcachofa. La calidad de la butifarra, jugosa por dentro, al igual que la morcilla, el cordero de pieza gruesa, sabroso y delicioso, y el alioli que nos han servido para acompañar, absolutamente todo estaba increíble. El postre no se ha quedado atrás. Un plato de rodajas de naranjas y una crema catalana casera de primera con un carquiñoli. En todo momento con la comida tienes en la mesa un porró de vino tinto y con la carne te sirven una botella de cava entera para la mesa.

💸 Todo ello, producto de proximidad, de calidad, cocinado con mimo a la perfección y con un servicio casi impecable, atento, cercano y amable, nos ha costado 47 euros por persona. No he podido salir más feliz de allí. Me esperaba mucho más y volveremos seguro.

🏡 La masía es un local impresionante. Tiene frescos de pintura en las paredes que son puro arte y te sientes en todo momento en un ambiente casero y cálido. Vigas en el techo, paredes de piedra, espacio amplio y cuidado.
