This cooking class was phenomenal. As someone who loves cooking and learning about different cultures, this was an incredible experience for me. The vibe was just unmatchedâthe whole family is so kind and genuine, truly such nice people.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with tea and amazing homemade sweets and pancakes, which already set the tone for how warm and thoughtful this experience would be. Then we got started with the class, where we learned so much about Sri Lankan cuisine and helped prepare a variety of dishes. Halfway through, they even offered us fresh coconuts, which was such a sweet touch.
By the end, we had an absolute feastâso many curries, a salad, sambol, mango chutney, and more. Everything was delicious. And the setting? So peaceful and beautiful, kind of in the jungle, about 15 minutes from Weligama. The owners even helped us get a tuk-tuk back, which was really kind of them.
Just a heads-up: The location on Google Maps is not accurate for the cooking class, so double-check with them beforehand to make sure youâre going to the right place!
Honestly, if youâre hesitating, just book it. You wonât...
Read moreThe cooking class at this Sri Lankan home was one of the highlights of our trip. We felt very welcome and learned so much about the Sri Lankan culture, local fruits, vegetables and spices. Needless to say that the food we got to taste after the class was simply delish. When we arrived we were greeted with tea and some sweets before starting the class, which was a nice way to help us settle in and get comfortable. Then we got to help in the kitchen, cut veggies, taste and smell everything, try out our coconut opening and shredding skills, make coconut milk as well as rice noodles from scratch, add spices to our taste and so much more. We enjoyed that this local family was also interested in our stories since they said that the cooking classes were a way for them to meet people from all...
Read moreMy friend and I had the most amazing experience in the cooking class hosted by beachy bites. Anusha and her parents in law were so so welcoming and accommodating to our requests (I asked to learn how to cook jackfruit curry and they showed us how to with jackfruit from their own garden!). Everything was beautifully presented in the traditionally set up kitchen, and we were given pancakes and tea on arrival. They showed us how to cook a variety of Sri Lankan curries and coconut roti and string hoppers. The meal was delicious and one of the best we had during our stay. All in all the cooking class was by far one of my favourite experiences during my time in Sri Lanka and we were so grateful to the beachy bites family for their...
