[ Premise ]

Took my mother to this restaurant as a delayed "80th Mother's Day gift" and invited one of her close friends to join us. Got some knitted, amazing TV-socks, Swedish "1970s-1980s style". I just love them and have them on whenever I get home from work.

I was not impressed by my mother's choice of resturant, but ...

[ So about "Bistro Le Garage" ]

... I was very surprised about the whole place; it doesn't look like much from the outside.

So when it came to the first drinks, I also asked the waiter/waitress to just pick the best alcoholic/non-alcoholic choices according to our food choice order. And yes, we had the same waiter/waitress the whole evening.

So I had no "big" hopes for it. But damn... I got an awakening when the dishes and the beverages started to roll out.

And the waiter/waitress started to do the same as in Michelin-star restaurants, telling us about the dishes they were serving tonight where the meat was locally sourced. They also told us about where the beverage was from, local or not.

So I give this resturant 5/5 for Food and Service it was excellent!

[ Suggestion for "Bistro Le Garage" ]

1a) For the seating, nothing much to do about the room, but I could suggest some more flamboyant / Extravagant curtains in the "BIG" windows. Thick fabric :)

1b) Could also dampen the noise with big parties, since the Resturant was fully booked :). Was Okay noise level, we could talk to each other, when we arrived at 17:14.. But was a bit noicey in the end before we left 19:03. This when the group of 20+ collegues that had single colleague to celebrate I could not hear much across from the other side of the table.

So this might have be a one off.. So I will not let this affect my review of the total score :D.

Visited the place tonight. Great atmosphere, nice. Very polite and well-mannered waitresses, but inexperienced.

Now to the sad part. Some of us ordered the 3 dish summer menu with pork. For one of us the meat was not done, still red. It did not taste good to begin with and was sent back to the kitchen. It did not taste better at all on return, really disgusting actually. Tasted rancid. Two people got stomachflu from consuming the food.

One allergic person got a food induced reaction despite insurances that it did not contain any allergens. This persons meat was also too well done.

Overall the meat dishes were really low standard.

Maybe the chef had a really bad day but we have tried Bistro Le Garage for the last time, which really is a pity because it should have the potential of...

I've been a regular at this place for 5 years, so about time I write a review. Amazing food and absolutely delightful, friendly staff. Also very good prices for the quality and quantity of food (especially the 3-course menu)! The ambiance is cozy, elegant but also relaxed. It's family friendly but at the same time perfect for a romantic date. Some of the best things about the food: Mostly locally sourced meat, amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes(although let them know ahead of time for vegan), and the menu changes seasonally so there's always something new and exciting to try out. This is my favourite restaurant in Umeå and I truly recommend anyone to try it!
