Spicy Hot — Restaurant in Uppsala kommun

During my last visit, I got food poisoned, with symptoms starting about 24 hours after my meal. I had the Thai red curry with chicken and I remember the vegetables being cold in the center. If the veggies were undercooked, one could easily assume that the chicked also didn't get enough time on the stove. My symptoms included fever, chills, stomach pain, and back pain that lasted five days. My condition worsened to the point where I had to visit the infection emergency at Akademiska, where test results confirmed Campylobacteria.

I opened a case with the Environmental Department at Uppsala Municipality, and my doctor filed a public health report with the Public Health Agency.

When I called the restaurant to report the food poisoning, the initial response was dismissive; after a couple of transfers, the manager eventually responded with a generic “we’ll review our routines.”

I’m writing this review as a record of my experience at Spicy Hot. Hopefully, you won’t get food poisoned like I did—but if you do, at least you were warned....

The food is generally OK and the portions are generous, so Spicy Hot scores well on value for money. However, I share the same complaint that many others have voiced here, namely that the food is often (but not always) excessively SALTY.

I communicated this to the staff on the most recent visit, and was told the recipes are decided by the owners and out of their control, that they are not allowed to adjust to make a dish less salty, that the dishes have been the same for 20 years and the problem is clearly me not the amount of salt.

This is a pretty good restaurant mainly aimed at lunch. We went here for dinner and the food was very nice and at a good price.

There is however no desserts and not too many options for drinks so it's not really a dinner place.

I had fried udon with beef that had a really nice fragrance and a hint of grilled flavor. I would like to come back again to try more dishes.

There were many nice options available and the wait time...
