Getfoten: A Slice of Swedish Paradise in the Stockholm Archipelago
As a tourist discovering the Stockholm Archipelago for the first time, we couldn’t have picked a better place for relaxing Saturday afternoon / evening. Nestled on a picturesque island, this restaurant offers a perfect blend of traditional Swedish charm with a modern twist that blew me away—and that’s before I even mention the food!
Docking in the harbour was surprisingly easy, with the much appreciated help of fellow bowman and locals - even for someone like me who’s more used to navigating Autobahns than Swedish waters. The restaurant’s dock is well-maintained, spacious, and ideal for visitors coming by sea, as so many do in this part of the world. After tying up the boat, we walked towards the restaurant and was immediately struck by the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Getfoten feels like a local pub cozy yet refined.
One of the first things that caught my attention was the stunning new terrace. It’s a brilliant piece of craftsmanship, built using an innovative technique that I hadn’t seen before, with no screws needed. The sleek wooden beams blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, offering a panoramic view of the archipelago that made my jaw drop. Sitting out there with the sun shimmering on the water, it felt like I was in a postcard.
But let’s talk about the food, because it was nothing short of spectacular! Swedish cuisine has this wonderful ability to be both hearty and elegant, and Getfoten nails it. For my main course, I went with the famous Swedish meatballs—because what better place to enjoy them than on an island in the heart of Sweden? Served with creamy mashed potatoes, a rich gravy, and of course, lingonberries, it was comfort food at its finest. The meatballs were tender, flavorful, and the perfect balance of savory and sweet, thanks to that classic lingonberry pairing. It’s the kind of dish that makes you feel at home, even when you're miles away from your own.
What really set Getfoten apart, though, was the hospitality. The staff made me feel like an old friend. From the moment I stepped off the boat to the last sip of my coffee snaps (a must-try, by the way), I was treated to Swedish hospitality at its finest. They were attentive but never overbearing, offering suggestions with genuine enthusiasm.
All in all, Getfoten is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Stockholm Archipelago. Whether you’re a first-timer like me or a seasoned sailor, the combination of its stunning location, fantastic food, and incredible service make this place unforgettable. And trust me, once you’ve seen that terrace, you’ll want to stay forever.

Read moreQuite possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Waited over 2 hours for our food (with young children)... to which the food never came. So we decided to leave. The service was very poor, and that is being generous. I can honestly say, I am shocked it was so bad. Such a shame, I have visited that location 30 plus times over the last 15 years. Sadly, I will not be returning. Nor my friends and family. I heard that the newly renovated restaurant under new management had a pretty bad reputation, but thought I'd give it a chance. Wow. I genuinely cannot see that place surviving another season. Should be zero stars. Several tables also felt the same. Its a real shame to be treated so badly. Lacking all the basics of customer service. I'm gobsmacked. Strongly recommend...
