We spent one night here in a double room (#14) with private bath. We did not find the hotel hard to locate watching for the signs as we approached Amden. When we arrived in the early afternoon, parking in front of the hotel was full and we were instructed to drive a little further down the road where there was a space on the left dedicated to hotel parking. Later, we were able to park in the lot next to the hotel. Our upstairs room was small and poorly lit with only the two lights near the beds. Furnishings included twin beds, a small chair (used for one piece of luggage), a luggage rack, wardrobe with five fake hangers, and two window "shelves," one of which had a lake view through the trees. Wifi was okay. The small bathroom was completely tiled with lovely tiles, with a very small sink, walk in shower, small shelf, toilet, and no door. There was liquid soap and a set of 2 large, 2 medium, and 2 blue beach towels. (We walked down the road in the afternoon where people were picnicking and bathing.) We dined outdoors on veal medalions with white and green asparagus and risotto for one plate and wiener schnitzel with French fries for another together with a 2015 Melser Rathauskeller pinot noir. The meal and lake/mountain view were excellent. At $290, the room and restaurant bill was expensive and we paid that evening as we did not plan to stay for breakfast. We had an interesting experience the next morning, which was not a crisis. The shower was awkward to use as the blue faucet controlled the upper shower head, while the red faucet controlled the water in the lower spout. That morning, the upper valve stuck with the water on. We had to leave it on after calling the owner to let him know the problem. We later got an email saying he had resolved the problem. We would recommend the restaurant but find a more comfortable and well lit...

Read moreWe opted for the 'lake view room' which was at the very top of the hotel. There are no lifts as it is an old building so you have to carry your cases up 3 flights of stairs. ||The staff were so friendly, really making you feel at home. We got showed around the hotel and told where we could go etc. Past the terrace, there is a set of stairs that they said you can use to go down to the lake to swim in if its really warm which is lovely!||||The room itself was amazing, never stayed anywhere like it before. Its really unique. The windows open up completely, which gives an amazing view of the lake. Its something that you will really remember forever I think! ||||There is wifi but you have to ask the staff for the password. The only negatives we have about this place was that the shower has no door and is completely open (we had the private bathroom in our room) and also it was so hot during the night that we woke up at 2.30am and dampened the towels with cold water and slept on them for the rest of the night. ||||The restaurant is expensive but absolutely amazing! Some of the best food and service we had on our road trip. We would definitely come...
