Stopped for a coffee and cake (very nice) and decided to stay as I wanted to walk to the source of the Rhein. Can't say I was warmly welcomed but they had a room (Well plenty at this time of the season). I worked out I just had enough time to get changed and make the rush for Lake Toma and back before it started to get dark. I understood from the Tourist office in Andermatt that the route to the lake began here. When I asked the young woman where the path began she shrugged and said ask in the tourist info hut about 100mts away. When got there is was closed which maybe they should have known? a very kind waitress at the the only other Restaurant across the road came out and pointed me in the right direction. On my return I went for a shower was a bit concerned there was no hot water... but you just have to wait, after 3-4 minutes it finally got hot and was a decent shower. I had my evening meal in their restaurant with only 5 other guests. The waiter was polite, but didn't listen when I said I wanted a small side salad and NOT the main version. My German is not that bad but a very large salad arrived. I ate some whilst waiting for my, main course then he tried to take it away before I had the main. I like to try local beers so asked if there was one... I got Erdinger from Germany! The main Pork Schnitzel was a bit disappointing, a bit salty (but I had that elsewhere in Switzerland too) The room was very basic no frills, tea, coffee, TV, radio or hair dryer, one picture on the wall. There was bottled water though. I was really tired so slept well, though there was some roof/shutter? rattling from the wind which might keep some awake. The bed was comfortable. No electric socket near the bed though. The toilet kept running and I had to remove the lid to push the valve down. They had no Wifi available but not clear why. I got an appology about that though. Breakfast was continental and sufficient. The lady (Owner?) who served me was very much more friendly and chatty and made sure I knew the time of the train which was imminent. She didn't have a record of how much I'd been quoted so a little discussion took place and we agreed the price. So, clean comfortable, good value, just not much personality about until the morning. If you want a base to walk to the source of the Rhein this is perfect just ensure you get your directions...
Read moreHad to wait half an hour just to be able to order and when we did the waiter acted rude with us, as if we had put a lot of pressure, which we didnt.
After waiting long for the food (30 minutes) and eating we wanted to pay. It seemed that only one person in the building was able to handle that request somehow. After waiting another 20 minutes for that person we got more rude comments.
I know the place was super busy when we were there, but i would attribute it to a large degree to the fact that people outside can order with a qr code, which makes the entire staff inside busy bringing order outside with the guests inside neglected.
I wouldnt have minded this experience as much if the waiter wasnt so rude to us repeatedly. It is not my fault your restaurant is poorly organised/staffed.
The food and...

On our return later we settled down for a few beers and were shown our room. We booked two triple rooms and one double. Spacious, spotlessly clean, simple and cozy rooms. Courtesy crocs to wear, very warm and high quality duvets. Shared bathrooms. Supper was a set menu of salad, schnitzel and a fabulous home made chocolate cake. Wine list was a bit pricey. Beautifully starched napkins, great atmosphere and we were relaxed and felt dry much at home. Slept well and a beautiful spot to wake up to. 330chf for one night full board per family.... bargain! We will...
