We hiked to le Mirroir and remained for the night at the hotel. The restaurant was part of an offer comprising of a full menu. Food was delicious (didn't take photos), with a wonderful tasting of many local flavours and products, all in a modern and very enjoyable plating. Wine pairing was enjoyable, and we definitely appreciated the flexibility of the staff around this (we shared 1 wine pairing for 2). A nice ending to the dinner, to have the owner visit the tables for a joke and a chat. The stuff were just wonderful, present yet discreet, efficient and always smiling. The overall vibe felt relaxed, despite the fact that the place receives some very distinguised guests on a daily basis. Breakfast was extremely varied in terms of choice, and the omelette I've chosen was just delicious, and along the lines of high cuisine quality. Be sure to book in advance; because of the year long access by car (check during snowy winters, to be sure), the restaurant is often fully booked. The location is superb, with the views on the Miroir d'Argentine being incredible; so many opportunities for enjoying a good meal, or for hiking or climbing. I highly recommend the hotel in the same building;...
Read moreThis restaurant is perfectly situated at the end of the road in Solalex, with spectacular mountains rising up away from it on three sides and the music of cow bells reverberates around the valley. Not unsurprisingly it is closed for the winter between October and May. It's well worth calling to book and to make sure they are open.
Staff are able to converse well in English and are perfect hosts, showing off local delicacies as well as explaining the menus. The menu is hand written and looks like it changes regularly. Everything here is fresh, and cooked to order, and the tastes reflect that.
Highlight of the meal was the home made ice cream flavoured with Asperule Odorante or in English Sweet Woodruff. Made that morning, it was crisp, light and refreshing.
For the quality of food and service, and certainly compared to other Swiss restaurants, the prices are very reasonable.
I fully intend to return with more friends to experience this...
Read moreWe droped by on a wednesday during lunch time as our first choice was closed. Easy seating, not busy at all, as apparently the week-ends tend to be fully booked. We sat inside in a modern cozy wooden chalet vibe, sturdy chairs and tables. I was lucky to be seated in front of the open kitchen where I could check out the rehearsed choreography of the chefs doing their thing. The food was elegant, precise, delicate yet full of flavor. I had an entree featuring confit, fresh, mousse and gaspacho tomatoes. An airy delight of contrasting notes in a same chord. To follow, a wild mushroom opus on a coulis of something or other with streaks of who knows. A full-flavoured ode to the mountains of the region. For desert, I had the cornet, super light pastry waffle-like with nutty cream. A perfect ending to an unforgetable...
