This is an exceptionally welcoming, good value small hotel right beside the Tavanasa train station. I arrived after an all day hike, hot and exhausted to a be greeted by Sabina and Pierre, a really lovely couple who made me instantly feel cared for and 'at home'. The hotel is quite quirkly - in the best sense - with lots of family heirlooms, teddy bears and photographs. I had a small room with a comfortable bed and a TV. There was a shared bathroom with two excellent showers and plenty of shampoo, shower gels etc. For dinner, as it was a hot evening, I opted for a large mixed salad which came with delicious melted goat's cheese and apple. Sabina stayed to find out about my day - which as a solo traveler I really appreciated - but then left me to enjoy my dinner. Breakfast the next morning was amazing - a huge individual plate of fresh fruit, a whole fresh loaf of bread on my table plus a croissant and then a platter with meat, cheese and yoghurt all locally sourced served with excellent coffee. Breakfast easily kept me going for the next stage of my long hike. This would be an excellent stopping off point for anyone hiking along the Rhine, doing the EuroVelo 15 or just generally...

Read moreSabine and Pierre are wonderful hosts with plenty of stories from the rings they used to have in Spain. Pierre is a cook with passion and we talked at length about food, had a very good dinner (loved the Spätzle!), and even got to taste his excellent Goulash. With their easy going attitude and rich life experiences, it felt like meeting old friends. The hotel itself is quite traditional with lots of paintings to discover. Rooms are rustic, wifi works fine. There is a large garage to store bikes and charge the batteries. Breakfast was fantastic with local meats and cheese, yoghurt, homemade bread and jelly, and a really good coffee. Make sure you stop there just to taste Pierre’s dishes and his homemade...
