Grotto la Baita — Restaurant in Circolo del Gambarogno

Grotto La Baita is located at a wonderful spot, on top of Magadino. The road is sometimes very narrow, be prepared to handle two way traffic on little roads. Once arrived next to the restaurant, parkings can be found a few metres further on the road and then again at the end of the road. The Grotto is located a few steps from the road up the hill. A beautiful view over Magadino and the Lago Maggiore greets you. The Grotto is beautifully designed, a mix of historical old and modern elements. The rain-resistant "roof" allows to eat outside even if it rains. The service was very friendly. Food was very good, my meat (Beef in Merlot sauce) could have been a tad more tender though. Great dinner at the Grotto Baita, the location is stunning, especially if you have a table with the view over the lake. The service was excellent, they offered one desert to share and espresso coffee for the entire table. The food was a positive surprised, unusually good choice for a grotto ticinese, a mix of traditional dishes (polenta e brasato) with some interesting one (risotto al prosecco rose). Price was also a positive surprise, it’s cleary lower than most restaurants in the Lago Maggiore area and in the rest of Ticino. Despite our language deficiencies we were able to call for a reservation (recommended) and order without issue. It was also our first time in 2.5 years attempting to have dinner at a restaurant with our 3 year old ( the last time we tried she screamed the house down and we’ve been scarred from trying again) and it went very happily thanks to the thoughtful and lighthearted service.
