Grottino Ticinese — Restaurant in Circolo dell'Isole

What a find! Exceptional experience. We were the only native English-speakers in this lively little neighborhood restaurant packed with people on a rainy Tuesday in early May. The staff went out of their way to accomodate us without a reservation (strongly recommended) and wrote down a list of other restaurants when we tried to book a table for the following night only to learn that they are closed on Wednesdays. I am Swiss and honestly my expectations were higher after reading all the great reviews. The food was good no doubt, but also just average compared to the other grottos in the area. Although they are friendly, the atmosphere is very touristy and you feel more like you are going through a hectic routine process than a nice local dinner experience. My "Gnocchi al ragù, fin che c’è" tasted like canned meat and they even charge you for the cream in your coffee. Purtroppo il nome "grotto ticinese" non rispecchia almeno stasera l'immagine del grotto con buona cucina ticinese nostrana e gustosa. Il piatto della tradizione ticinese : "polenta e brasato" era insipido, salsa molto molto insipida, senza gusto, polenta con grandi grumi e soprattutto le 3 fettine di carne del brasato erano piene di nervi e grasso. Essendo degli abitudinari dei veri grotti Ticinesi del sottoceneri (Grotto Pierino , Grotto della Salute...), sappiamo che se si prendesse la parte magra del manzo,sarebbe stata tenera la carne. Ovviamente per il ristoratore sarebbe più cara la carne e il margine di ricavo meno alta...Dopo il nostro commento, il proprietario ci indica che li dispiace e che normalmente dovrebbe essere tenera la carne e che non ha provato le salse...Ci fa capire che non siamo stati fortunati. Ci vuole offrire un caffè. Secondo noi avrebbe dovuto ammettere che il cibo era scadente questa sera, non fare semplicemente pagare il piatto cosi avrebbe potuto lasciare un' immagine migliore. Partiamo con 90.- in meno e una delusione pura. Ovviamente l'accaduto non ci fa pensare di ritornare. Se almeno non avessimo avuto a pagare i due piatti avremmo sicuramente riprovato ma purtroppo nessun vero gesto del proprietario....
