Hochwacht — Restaurant in Egg

Never experienced a restaurant like this one where everyone of the staff was in such a bad mood. Starting with being shouted at by the staff when going to the self service line scolding us that today the restaurant is with service only. This after having experienced self service at this place over all our many previous visits here. Afterwards it took 30 minutes till a staff arrived at the table asking for our order. Trying to pay proofed to be another issue as well as ordering an ice cream from the freezer box. Having been shouted at by another two staff that they don’t have time for ice cream sales and to settle the bill we were finally able to pay and leave… Hard to understand how a place with such a great atmosphere and good food can lead to such a bad mood of...

Unfortunately, the food has become quite unappetizing. My rice tasted sour with s strong smell/taste of white wine and lacking salt. The meat of all 3 guest dishes tasted definitely off, maybe 1 week old.... Salad/soup was good. The cordon Bleu appear to be stuffed with old ham, the cheese was good. The lamb back again old meat, not properly seared with an undefinable cover of rather odd spices. Not what this restaurant used to be popular for, traditional swiss dishes. Other than the great view, I can't recommend this unappetizing establishment. Maybe best to stick with a glass of wine or beer to...

The staff was rude. We were told by a stressed waiter to sit “anywere”, so we picked a table ourselves and proceeded to settle down. Then the female waitress barked that this table is for eating only, not for coffee. How exactly could we have guessed…? When I asked if they have high chairs for our babies, the waiter said “Ja”, and just walked away. How helpful. Then yet another waiter came over for our order and was behaving weirdly too.

We came to test this restaurant today as we are searching for a venue for a large family reunion in a few months. Needless to say, we will go...
