My first trip to Switzerland and what a wonderful 5 days they were staying at the lovely Gasthof Kreuz Marbach. From the moment we arrived Nikk and Diane couldn’t do enough for us. Such a warm welcome, they made us feel very at home. Our room was a great size with super comfy beds and a wonderful view of the mountains and the very Swiss looking local church.
The Inn is situated in the perfect location, easy to reach from Zurich Airport and nestled in the centre of town surrounded by rolling hills and the most amazing landscapes. It’s literally the picture postcard location and just happens to be in a UNESCO Biosphere site too!
We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Inn most days and it was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. All local produce and cooked freshly to order. All the walking we did certainly worked up an appetite which was perfect. I’d highly recommend eating here even if you’re only passing by. The curry’s and the steak were delicious!
Plenty to do nearby and Nikk and Diane have loads of suggestions of what to do in the local area. Jump on the cable cars up to the top of the mountain, it’s a beautiful scenic walk all the way back into town. Or simply lose hours sitting up the mountain taking in the scenery watching all the Paragliders. We also did a day trip to Luzern, great shopping, wonderful architecture and plenty of cafes and bars to sit at by the lake to watch the world go by. I can also recommend a tasting session at the Studer Distillery. If you like schnapps, brandy, and wonderfully flavoured gin then it’s really worth visit. The tour is super interesting and the tasting session is even better at the end.
For my first stay in Switzerland I couldn’t have wished for more. You could walk for days and days here with the most beautiful views, crisp air and peace and quiet. It’s the perfect get away if you want to be surrounded by nature, good hosts and wonderful food, I...
Read moreMarbach is an excellent location to walk in the mountains, bike ride or to visit towns and cities. The hosts, Diane and Nikk, could not have made our stay more pleasant. Nikk is the chef and produced outstanding meals. Breakfast is fulsome and the homemade muesli is truly excellent. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms. The restaurant is busy and reflects the quality of the food on offer. If you visit on a Monday you will hear the local yodelling group which is an experience not to miss. |The outside area to eat is a pleasant place with views of the mountains above.||It is an excellent location which has a local grocery shop, butcher and a cheese factory which is worth a visit. There is a local grotto to visit which takes is an easy one hour walk. Diane and Nikk made our stay a memorable one and gave us advice on where to visit and how to get there using public transport. They both speak several languages including English and they are a very entertaining couple who both have extensive experience in hospitality. ||Marbach is in the centre of the country so we had good transport links to several towns which we visited (Thun, Bern and Lucerne). A cable car is located 5 minutes walk away and we went up and had a brilliant walk along the ridge and down to the valley. The route is well signed and gave us glorious views of the valley below and the mountain ranges surrounding us.||Would I list Marbach again? Yes I would as it is a great base to visit other areas of Switzerland. I would certainly stay at Gasthof Kreuz Marbach and recommend it to any...
