A very modern, stylish, delightfully furnished hotel, so airy, light, and very, very quiet. Location is right on the shore of Lake Konstanz so great views from the restaurant and rear patio area. Our room at the front of the hotel, so no lake view, was spaceous, clean, comfortable, full of light through the wall of glass, and with an outside balcony. The balcony extends across all the rooms so no privacy, enabling anyone to walk past your room which was not good. Everything else about the room was excellent, spotlessly clean with a great en suite.||The hotel is a centre for meditation which was a complete surprise to us. We noticed a large Madonna statue in the reception area as we checked in which led to the realisation that the Sokrates is not your 'run of the mill' hotel. Most of the other few guests who were staying, were clearly there as part of meditation courses they run.||Breakfast was good with a freshly cooked egg based hot option.||The hotel is located in an exceptionally quiet area. Ideal for walks along the lake shore but very isolated from everything else so a car is essential.||A couple of things which irked us about the hotel. Firstly, the only wi fi signal available was in the main reception area, which in today's world is unacceptable. Secondly, there was a 'make your own cup of tea' station on the first floor inner balcony area with comfortable seating, but no coffee! As someone who doesn't drink tea but enjoys a cup of coffee, that did irk me. Oh and lastly, being in Switzerland, everything is sooooooooo expensive. We ate in the hotel on our first night as we arrived quite late, but not again. It was worth our while to drive the 30 minutes to get across the border in to Germany.||Hotel Sokrates is a very nice, exceptionally quiet hotel, and we had a very pleasant stay, however I wouldn't...

Read moreThis is a nice place for a short stay if you need to be in this area. It's set on the shores of lake Konstance and is a very comfortable hotel.||||The rooms are bright and airy with great fittings and everything is completely spotless. There were two large wardrobes and a work desk in my room.||||The restaurant serves a great range of freshly prepared food and all of the staff are super friendly.||||The hotel rooms are all laid out on one floor and either face the lake or the gardens.||||There are no baths but the showers are excellent and fantastically strong. There are modern safes and also electric shutters to completely black out the light if need be. Each room also has a nice balcony.||||Breakfast is a simple affair but once again, everything is spotless and completely fresh.||||The main downside for me (and the reason that I could only award it 4 out of 5) is the fact that there is no WiFi at all int he hotel and I do find this to be a necessity these days. There is a computer room where one can get on the internet and a printer that can be used by guests. The hotel do have free internet access in each room but this is via a cable and is therefore no use for phones and many tablets that don't have a LAN port.||||The views across the lake towards Germany are lovely.||||I used this as a base for a trade show in Friedrichschafen, in Germany and was able to visit there via a 40 minute ferry ride from Romanshorn, which is a few kilometers away. The views from the ferry were pretty spectacular!||||I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel...
